So on another forum there's this new type of vote. It's called a Deadline vote, and I want your take on whether we should include it or not.

Mikeee said:
Votes are normal votes. If you say Deadline Vote REDACTED that would be a vote that would kick in at the end of the day. These do not count towards hammer. So if majority is 15, and someone has 8 votes + 7 deadline votes, the day does not end. When the deadline was reached, these votes would count, and they would be lynched.

So basically it would prevent mislynches that would result from inactivity? Seems interesting.

Interesting, but not a good idea.

IMO, if town can't get there **** together then they should be punished for it, plain and simple. Giving town a fail safe like this unbalances the game.

Maybe we could do this in a couple specific games that have a more experimental nature to them, but as the norm? I wouldn't recommend it.

Would love to hear arguments for this though. Also, perhaps a poll is called for here?

For now I would leave this up to mod discretion. While it is an interesting mechanic it has the potential to promote inactivity. I'd like to see it implemented in a few games.

How effective has it been on the other site? Do they have a thread discussing the topic?

The question is, if scum uses inactivity as a tactic, then is this making the game imbalanced?

Sword dancer puts it up for me. This basically gives town the idea of doing "okay, here's my scum pick, and here's my inactive lynch pick"

Can't breathe, but the view is equal to the taste
If scum want to use dire super-inactivity as a tactic, they're playing the game wrong. At the very least with this system, it puts them in direct competition for a lynch with townies who are just being inactive. Inactivity shouldn't be a safe position, everyone should be playing the game.

Anyway, that's not really what this is about. I'm sure an upcoming GM could try this out without much change to their game mechanics. Someone should volunteer. :awesome:

I can't say, the game hasn't started yet, not until the 14th, but it looks interesting. I'll keep you guys updated with how it's working out.

I'll be happy to make a new thread updated with a poll if you guys want.

**** scum inactivity tactics. It wrecks active scum plans. If I'm scum and I see the opportunity to initiate a wagon swing when I know it can't happen or decide to stall out a day, I want it to ****ing No Lynch if I work toward a No Lynch. You're giving town a buff that does absolutely jack **** for scum in a game that's precariously balanced by nature.

Basically what Ryker said without the SASS.

You'd unnecessarily be putting the game in a pro-town environment from the get-go.

I prefer town being forced to get their **** together.

Cooperation among townies and deception within town are, after all, core tenets of the game.

Your vote should be where you want it to be and are comfortable having it at all times when you are AFK.

If you aren't comfortable with it there, take it off, plain and simple.

If you are going to be V/LA before a deadline, then that's too bad and you need to strategize around it. Being inactive comes with disadvantages and being active and in the thread comes with distinct advantages. These is a design structure that needs to be preserved and a reward system that is healthy for the game.

Giving players "If-then" votes, even if they are specifically "if deadline then" votes is a principally and practically poor concept. It allows people to have their options covered in scenarios that they will not be present to actively observe. Things can happen before a deadline that can change a person's opinion about who they want to vote for, and allowing them to change their vote without even having to check the thread personally beforehand is just encouraging poor, blind play.

Beyond that you have the practical issues of people now having to keep track of two vote counts, which becomes increasing difficult and more important as the day goes on, placing more stress on both the mod and players. This is just extra numbers and effort no one needs to be subject to.

Overall, though the concept is interesting, it is bad for the game principally and is a handful on the execution side. Just a bad idea overall to implement.
