Super Mario Galaxy is one of my all-time favorite video games. It shows what the Wii can do, a title I can consider perfect, etc. There is just so much good in the game.

So unsurprisingly, I am really hyped for Super Mario Galaxy 2, which looks to be an really brillant game as well.

But just today, I came across this interview. It is a good read: http://gameinformer.com/b/features/...-mario-galaxy-2-expanding-games-and-more.aspx

Now this interview gave me an concern.

In that interview, Shigeru Miyamoto did say it was going to be harder, nice to hear that, but he only mentions it would be harder towards novice gamers. There are no mention of core gamers in the magazine.

It doesn't dampen my expectation for the game, but I am worried about one thing. The game might be too easy. By that, I mean I could complete a game in less then one week, a no-no for modern video games.

Casual gamers will probably find this hard and all, but what about the core gamers that have stuck with them since the NES, SNES, or even the N64? With no mention of them, we could find this game easy as pie and with minimal challenge providing that they don't mention us.

I really do hope that it is harder then the original. I also really do hope they don't disappoint the core gamers with this title.

This is taken directly from the interview:
In other words, yes, it is a challenging game, and it is worthwhile to challenge yourself with Super Mario Galaxy 2. For fans of action games and hardcore gamers, it’s a challenging enough game, but we’re trying to make an easy to control mechanism as possible.

The only time he mentioned novice gamers was to say that they might need help from the secret guide-like feature there implementing.

Remember when Mario used to hit bricks to get coins?
Now he has to cross ****ing canyons and trapeze his way to get red coins.

If its just going to have easier controls, then I see nothing to worry about.

I actually liked all the acrobatic shenanigans you could do in Super Mario Sunshine. That and the fact that it's far and away the most difficult title is why it's my favorite of the 3D Mario games.

If they simplified the controls even MORE than they did in SMG1, I would be extremely disappointed. But hey, I'm just one guy. What I want isn't the same as what everybody wants.

fufufufu, how many mario games CAN'T you beat in less than a week?
I beaten Super Mario World in six days. That's it.

Everything else has taken multiple weeks and even months to beat, or I just get bored of it and leave it unfinish.

my first play through of NSMB DS took me 2 days to beat the first time through.

My second play through took 2 hours.

My third took 26 minutes >_>

Mario games(Except maybe NSMB Wii) are easy. Really easy. But they're still fun.

I went over to my firends house in the afternoon, and we'd beaten the game by the evening.
I guess if you get all the star coins, and finish the secret world, and don't grope toad houses for every last item it becomes harder.

Mario games are all about confidence. The more you have, the better you'll play. Its all you need really. Other wise the games will beat the **** out of you.

The only thing that's really got me curious about Galaxy 2 is the exclusion of a Hub World. There's apparently only going to be a map.

If it takes out the story though, then that'll be great for me. The Hub World nor the story really interested me in the first one, the only thing that I found memorable were the levels themselves.

Also the whole thing about 240 stars to collect is REALLY interesting to me. I'm just going to assume that means Luigi is back, though.

I thought the lack of a hub world was interesting too.
So where do you restart when you lose all your continues? The Mario head planet?
