2 Tips Against Falcon

I consider myself to be relatively good against falcons because i play a lot of them, so I thought i would post a few tips

1) When you are getting tech-chased a good thing to do is to hit L/R for the tech and hold the button and then also hold left or right on the c-stick. So what will happen is you'll tech whichever way you did and then you will roll left or right (or if you hold c-stick up you will jump) immediately. This really messes up most falcons i have played. A very good falcon may catch on to this, but since things happen so fast he most likely still will not be able to punish you. If you notice they do catch on to this, mix it up with attacking instead of doing the roll, forward tilts are very good.

*Note: you can also do a ground dodge if you hold c-stick down, but I don't recommend it, good falcons love to play against people who spam spot-dodge.
*Note 2: The c-stick trick thing applies to every character really it's very very useful.

2) If you short jump and Bair immediately upon leaving the ground you will not need an l-cancel on it and it is therefore very quick. So doing this in and out of his personal space really freaks the falcon out. It's hard to explain exactly how to use it cause it has many uses, but mostly i just run up and shine into a quick bair and get the F out of there.

A good example of this is in this video at 3:50.

Eh I don't like jumping out of techs. I feel like if I was gonna do that instead of spot dodge that I might as well just turn and jab or bair or nair or whatever, full hopping for no reason doesn't seem like a good option.

Autocancel bair, thats sort of nifty I guess, I don't know how punishable it is but it seems to work for you vs that falcon, and it gives you plenty of time to DI out of grab range if you started the bair too close, so thats good stuff.

Tips vs Falcon, laser a lot and make connected shines count.

I want to expect better of you, but I know not to
I've stolen that autocancel bair thing from Reik, it's mad good vs. Jiggs too. I also like it into utilt, **** spaces really well.

Buffer rolling/jumping/whatever, is really good, and people should do it more, but perfect tech chase will get you anyway, it just makes sure that you escape asap if they're off by a couple frames.

Also, I love that video, it's got some of teh best music in a combo video in a long while and all the play is mad nice, <3 Champaign.

Edit @ BigR, I think if you hit their shield really close to when you land, they can't do any jump **** out of shield vs. utilt and the Falcon needs to just roll, but if you hit high on their shield, they can definitely full hop over your utilt and stomp you.

I figured out auto-cancel b-airs a long time ago /but didn't really start applying them until recently. That first tip you gave is very useful though, I forgot about buffering rolls w/ c-stick, and didn't think of applying them like that.

My usual game plan against Falcons is to just run away and laser until I feel I have a certain degree of control over them, then start applying pressure so I can keep/swing the momentum in my favour. I also like to go for d-throw --> SHL tech-chase --> d-throw --> repeat. Then again, I do that against a lot of characters, and Falcon can be comboed easily w/ shine so it's not always necessary.

Yeah Matt you would have had that match had you started with Falco instead of Shiek and Falcon, haha.

I'm just now getting into melee so I appreciate the tips.

wow nice tips

does the roll also work with tech chase grabs? (like you DI out of marth up throw grab range and tech but he chases you down anyway)

and are autocanelled bairs faster than shffl'd bairs?

yes, I use it in all tech chase situations. It's also how you get out of the IC dthrow + dair chaingrab thing. DI down and away, and buffer a spot dodge with l and c-stick down.

of course not, since you're not reaching the ground as quickly without the fast fall. their beauty is in the fact that the hitbox stays out so **** long and therefore leaves a lower ratio of time you are vulnerable to time you have a hitbox out.

yea i didnt think they were faster than shffls but that does make sense.

I'll work on adding these to my game.
