She's still glamorous and feminine even after Odyssey, so I guess being mayor and a great singer comes off as more of a unilateral addition with no sacrifices whatsoever.

Also, Peach got kidnapped in that game again, so there's that.

I think mario odyssey came out at a weird spot between gamer gate and the more modern anti-woke movement so their talking points werent really in full swing at that point

It's because that crowd doesn't care about Mario at all and only pretended to be fans when the movie was trending and the grifters they follow could make money from it.

I find that the anti-woke crowd is pretty selective about what they outrage about and it's never consistent. That is because they don't care about what they talk about, they're just talentless grifters who talk about whatever generates the most clicks

Pretty much exactly what osby osby and Hex D. Jess Hex D. Jess stated.

Those grifters were never fans to begin with and they are just looking for an opportunity to create a load of negative noise filled with misinformation and lies to generate a load of clickbait.

Probably because there wasn't the toxic marketing behind it that most woke stuff has nowadays. General rule of thumb if you don't want your creation to be mobbed by the anti-woke crowd is to not make a big deal out of it as if you were carrying some progressive revolution entirely on your shoulders while painting said crowd out to be boogeymen in order to drum up sympathy and support for your creatively bankrupt slop that would otherwise be languishing in obscurity.

They don't express it in a coherent or productive way, mainly because they lack the self-awareness and articulation to do so, but the gamergate/anti-woke crowd at its root is about resisting those who exude hall monitor energy. The idea that women play games being some sort of revolutionary force is patently ridiculous on its face, but mainstream publications ran with that and made gamers, now a pejorative, out be some -ist boogeyman even though the idea of a bunch of tut-tutters barging into a community they don't understand and demanding changes is universally repulsive. And gaming now has to mean supporting one group of games over another or you're construed as batting for the other team.

And that creates the reactionary force that marketers feed off of. That grandiose pomposity in proclaiming that one's work is going to revolutionize the world and stick it to the other is pretty much guaranteed to ignite the internet, but blaming what you claimed to be a loud minority in the run up for sinking what would have otherwise been a blockbuster to avoid accountability to your investors is the true stroke of genius.

It's not diversity that they hate. Anime is now for some reason associated with them and it has always been very woke before it was cool to the point it had to be heavily censored when it was brought to conservative America. It's just that Anime never made a big deal about it or tried to alienate certain demographics to sell itself.

The woke virus isn't really a desire for diversity but these marketeers creating false dichotomies and toxic frameworks to sell mediocre garbage. Nobody liked Ghostbusters 2016 because you can't just replace penis jokes with vagina ones. You have to design female shows with female frameworks instead of genderbending male ones. The talentless hacks that make up Western writing these days have no idea how to create the female franchises they go on about all the time.

The outrage is inconsistent because it depends on whether something provokes it or not.

That's just everyone on the internet tbh.

No, some people do make good content even if they do sometimes follow trends and use clickbait to generate clicks.

I do agree that there are a lot of slop creators who have no talent and only do it for the money and right-wing grifters typically fall into that category
