Apparently he tweeted this message out differently in english, so it could be a character that’s obscure in Japan but relatively well-known in the west

Also I’m 99% sure this is reading too much into things but I think Sakurai’s “if you’re a smash player or just love videogames” line from his english tweet could suggest a well-known gaming history rep.

Hmm, perhaps an Atari rep? I get that Zombie Atari may be tricky to work with - knowing their weird hotels and crypto schemes - but it'd make sense as both a history rep and a Western-character-unfamiliar-to-Japanese-fans, and if there's to be any best-for-last character it'll likely lean more history given the last time that was done was Mr. G&W

It's weird-I don't think he would be hinting towards the last fighter since Sakurai doesn't really do that stuff. But it's not like it hasn't happened before-remember when he posted a picture of Kirby and the Dragon Quest shield just randomly?
If it is a hint towards something, it's probably the kind of character even non-gamers could recognize (anything in populairty level from "Waluigi-tier" to "Tetris-tier").
