Haha well just make sure that everything is organized. Have the standard rule set and make it clear so no one ends up disapointed as the last second. Also if you're handling brackets, you might want a laptop that has the bracketing program on it so it makes it a whole lot easier to manage. As for advertising it, it depends on what your venue is and how big you want your turn-out to be, spread the word too far out if you're expecting like a 20 man tourney, but if you're aiming bigger, then obviously you'd post it on the boards lol. Aside from that, when ppl are playing their matches, make sure they report their matches to you *asap* because some ppl get impatient if the tournament lasts too long. Calling matches as soon as you can, makes everything faster and a lot more enjoyable. But above all, just make sure that you have organization, because you'll never have a problem if everything is set perfectly.
