Pikachu might be the overall better character, but based on results, Palutena is just the more Meta character pick. Decent speed and hitboxes cater to more people than characters with more precise hitboxes and technical flair it would seem.

Pikachu would be considered mid tier Without ESAM. Pika would simply not be meta relevant without those results.

Might be jumping the gun, but it does seem like the meta is very diverse at the moment. we got speedy characters, swordies, heavies, (and speedy sword heavies). the future meta seems very unpredictable.

I can't really give you any tips against Pikachu, But i'm willing to play some matches against you if you want.

On a good day, I'll give him the Cloud as a decent match-up, but ESAM needs to be more consistent in his tournament matches against other top players of these characters before i'll give in to his words.
