By the way, on Rubicon, AMC officially announced that they won't be releasing it on DVD. Argument? "Not enough of an audience".
Uh, what. Better ratings than the first season of either of its (at the time) peers = not enough of an audience? I swear to god, this is reaching CAPCOM vs Megaman levels of insanity and retardedness. Or maybe the sillier Rubicon fans that think it's a conspiracy coming down from the Illuminati are right. In all seriousness I think there's just a pseudoconspiracy at AMC to ease themselves out of the high quality zero pandering stuff they've been making and into more formulaic stupid-people-friendly stuff that pretends to be a good show so they can trick their way into the Emmys anyway. In fact they even semi-cancelled Breaking Bad; I could totally see the story running for as long as Mad Men and being compelling all the way through, but next season will be the last and lack of ratings growth is totally the unspoken reason.
So uhm, yeah. This might actually motivate me to start one of them crazy internet crusades since they actually tend to work for getting shows on DVD at least, but at any rate I'd stop holding your breath and just download Rubicon.
On a more positive Rubicon-related note, I'm rewatching it now for the first time since it aired and, well, I still love it. In fact now that I already know the story I'm picking up on a lot of the more subtle themes and character insights that tend to be completely inferred rather than underlined, and that's just nifty as all hell. So yeah get on that **** son. 13 eps shouldn't tie you up downloadingwise for long, and it'd totes be worth it as well since the only DVDs you'll be getting for a while will be burned.
