    Advanced Techniques?

Not really. Now this is dash dancing (frame perfect btw). Pikachu is just changing run directions, there's no indication yet that you'll be able to turn on a dime, or at least closer to it. Remember tripping is just one obstacle in the way. Brawl also introduced much stricter conditions for...

    Advanced Techniques?

There's a lot of wishful thinking here. Ascended glitches are not exactly in sync with Sakuari's design approach. We could see some new techs that fall through the development cracks, but I wouldn't hold my breath with any existing ATs given the franchise history.

Proposed Ruleset for Smash 4 Tournaments

Same is true for every smash game, Brawl just took it one step further. That's actually the biggest problem here. Most items are, in their very nature, designed to cause chaos and introduce eventful imbalances on the playing field. If highly strategic item play was the goal, we would have seen...

BEHOLD THE POWER OF DATA - Smash Census Results!

...outside of the context of this survey, correct? (the opposite of what D-idara did)

BEHOLD THE POWER OF DATA - Smash Census Results!

Thankfully not all the results are that predictable. For instance with the the technique charts, I wasn't expecting so many players here to fall in the indifferent column. By the way those debates typically go, I thought there would be more of a clearly defined split. Makes sense though when...

BEHOLD THE POWER OF DATA - Smash Census Results!

Honestly the survey is far more relevant to this community as is.

Can we talk before we try to make a ruleset for this game?

You know what I'm sick of hearing with the whole item debate? The belief that after 3 games we just haven't experimented enough to reach some new enlightenment on the subject. Yes, like Brawl was, Smash 4 will be a new game, but by now all of us should have a good grasp of the mainstay items...

Smash IV Data Collection Project Discussion

Oh... ok, I see. Saw these charts with Brawl specific characters and assumed people where attempting to gather this type of data on it first.

Smash IV Data Collection Project Discussion

So just a quick observation, where do Melee and 64 fit into this research? It would make sense to take the entire smash community into account.

Smash IV Data Collection Project Discussion

I'll put it this way, I don't doubt your good intentions.

Smash IV Data Collection Project Discussion

I suppose you're right in the context of this thread. I initially saw this as a reaction to the rules debate (which lets not beat around the bush, it is). You're right though, there nothing wrong with an additional organized effort to present all the info clearly. I just hope there's not an...

Smash IV Data Collection Project Discussion

Think you're mistaking my argument for someone else's. Not once did I say these raw numbers useless. They make a good addition to the many considerations that go into determining a rule set.

Smash IV Data Collection Project Discussion

Like I mentioned, data collection does have it's place. I just find it's being overly emphasized in the rules debates. Haha, conclusions people draw from the data are hardly impartial either. Look, you can gather attendance data, characters played, stage odds, etc. That's all valuable to...

Smash IV Data Collection Project Discussion

I think it's time everyone takes a step back here, this exorbitant emphasis on the data is getting a bit out of hand. I'm not saying it doesn't have a place or purpose, it absolutely does, but try to remember rules are primarily about providing the best competitive experience possible, not...
