  • Hey PP, who do you think has the best fundamentals in the top 5? And what is your personal definition of "good fundamentals"?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
fundamentals- core game elements that, when abused, allow the player to obtain higher win ratios.

this would then mean that whoever won in a certain fashion or most often would be who I called best. I don't think it matters much when you could argue many of the top 5 or all of us have similar fundamentals though. not a very fun answer but these questions are hard =p

Thanks, that's quite the answer I was looking for!
Hey PPMD! Congratulations on EG sponsorship!

I just wanted to say you're my favorite smasher of all time, and I'm a big fan!

I grew up with melee, but recently I want to be competitive. I like Marth and Falco equally. Should I learn them both or decide one to learn?

    thank you so much! =)

Both of them can succeed, and I personally recommend learning just one but playing the other to keep your perspective fresh sometimes.
Hey, one of my biggest problems as falco is being grabbed. I'll always approach with short hop nair or SHFFL, but I'll always get sheild grabbed out of them or shined OOS, so I was wondering, are there any tips to approach techniques that are effective and safe against people who shield grab? I assume the easiest option is to just grab them lol, but there could be other options for me to practice too
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
delay the nair and/or FF it more correctly
    JDavisR (NIX)
    JDavisR (NIX)
Oh ok I've never tried that before so I'll try to add that to my approaches, thanks
hey, l was wondering what is the best way to beat a falco player besides wobbling them?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
beat most falcos by taking lasers and that auto desyncs so you can ice block or blizzard and fight them. if falco goes high to dodge then just uair him. if hes closer use intelligent shields and rolls to punish his play.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
luigi I'm actually not so sure about but platforms and WD in between lasers and SH aerials so falco can't laser into approach are quite nice
    LovinMitts
    LovinMitts
Wobbling is is one of Luigi's best tools. One time, I wobbled an IC player. I wobbled Popo and Nana at the same time.
My mind is blown when Fox Players Like Professor Pro & Chillindude do Shine back air crazy tech skill they have
whats hard about fighting a agressive Falco like Mango in the Past
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
he just forces you to make more decisions than anyone else. it's pretty fun!
Hey PP, I live extremely close to you apparently, I'm from Winston-Salem. Unfortunately I'm not that good but I'd definitely like to play you once I get better.

Glad to have one of the best players in the world representing NC!
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
glad you're here! im moving to raleigh pretty soon but come to a tournament and we will play a little =)
Hey PP, I have a question I am sure you haven't read. I play as Link, and you are obviously Falco. What do I do that might actually work? Melee btw.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
use platforms to get your projectiles out so falco can't shoot you very easily. fair is a big move that falco also struggles dealing with

Thank you for your time. You are truly an asset to the community.
Dr Peepee instead of you not studying character matchups anymore what else do you do to get this knowledge?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
improve other areas of my life. in a more game sense, I practice and try to watch videos and understand why people do what they do.
PP I think a money match needs to happen between you and DP the best falco in PM will be determined this way I guess
Hey PP - Congrats on APEX and all your other tournaments haha.
Just have 2 questions I'd like to ask you:

    1) You mentioned before that Falco was difficult to gimp (for Sheik players) - Why do you say that?
    2) Are you ever coming to Canada for some tourneys?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
    thanks!

    1. just because she can't cover the edge well and he can get there easily, but also because of DJ Dair at lower percents. it's still doable just tough haha

    2. maybe, who knows!
    Alulim

Thanks again! Can't wait to see the God 5 at MLG/Evo : P
Hey man I got a question, how can you get out of Peach's chaingrab on Fox and Falco? It makes me confused to this day. ;-; (talking bout Melee btw x3)
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
slight DI behind her sometimes so she misses the grab. you can also DI offstage if you're close to it so the combo ends. around 100% i think if you don't DI you can jump out if she goes for regrab.
    Captain Zack
    Captain Zack
Alright, thanks man! You've helped a lot.
Hey man how do you, if there is any way, to practice being less predictable while teching and rolling? I assume you'll just say experience but I might as well ask lol
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
don't always tech how you DI

mix up DI and tech together

be comfortable and know your options on missed tech, it's a good option
    JDavisR (NIX)
    JDavisR (NIX)
"Know your options...its a good option" -Best advice ever lol.

Jk seriously tho thanks man time to go practice
Hey man you've been out there killing it, your falco is what inspired me to keep playing after getting a bit discouraged and I've since improved exponentially, do you have any tips for falco that could make a big difference?

try moving slightly when lasering and also WD'ing. hit your edgeguards, bair them when they are high in the air. these things make a big difference!
Is there a tournament during may 16-18
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
in nc? probably but I'm not sure what that would be yet. go to the nc melee facebook group to check it out haha

out of nc definitely but I don't think there's a major then
Hey congrats on CW6 I consider you the best in the world at melee I think you have the best falco in PM and Melee Agreed?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
hey thanks man, and hey a lot of people seem to agree =)
What do you think of Roy compared to Marth in PM?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
Roy is similar to Marth in PM but has arguably better SH shield pressure and different combo DI kill setups. Roy's are easier to survive than Marth's because just holding in saves you from dying to Roy.

Roy is comboed and killed easier than Marth and he also has comparable range but worse pokes, so I think he is probably a bit worse than Marth.
I remember you mentioning at some point that you had talked to someone about how to play aggressive Sheik, and right now people keep telling me that my Sheik's biggest weakness is that my neutral game is almost entirely defensive. What do you think about aggressive Sheik?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
Eh I mean Sheik seems a bit more geared toward defense, at least initially. It's okay to be defensive, but you need to round it out with offense. Look for times when people won't approach you because your defense is strong and use those moments to push forward.
Question: Do you think they should enhance Falcos recovery or making him heavier? or something else also can you tell me any combos that are falco PM exclusive?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
Eh not right now. I think Falco's recovery is certainly sub-par for P:M but he's still got a fairly strong on-stage game to make up for it. Perhaps time will prove me wrong about that though haha.

It's harder to combo in P:M but I don't really know why. People seem to be able to SDI moves easier. I pretend to combo then chase them lol.
    Zekk
    Zekk
I can combo easy but I just die right away misjudge my firebird length
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
best thing to do for that is jump offstage and upb from different places to get used to it =)
First off, you are without a doubt my favorite falco player. I've watched you, Shiz, and Zhu a lot and I try to incorporate all of your different styles into my falco game. What would you say are some of the most essential skills falco players should master?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
well thanks so much for the complement!

falco should master the SHL, the edgedash, the waveshine, and the shine grab. those are all really good
Just wondering, I know it's X and Y should be used to whatever you feel comfortable. Yet, for Falco shouldn't Y be used for multi shining? What do you use? And do you use C Stick or A for ariels?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
people say Y is more efficient and I believe them =)

    I use A for aerials!
You know I was just thinking of this but if you could go back and change your name, would you do it and explain the other name
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
I don't know what it would be haha. I think that my name worked for a long time so it was better than whatever else I could've done.
    Zekk
    Zekk
Lol I actually kinda admire your name you took this childish type name and made the game behind it insane
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
haha yeah certainly attempting to challenge name connotations is really cool =)
How much do you travel to tournaments? if a lot then how do you afford it
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
well my sponsor and other tourney winnings help me travel. i travel instate often, nearly every weekend. I travel OOS a handful of times a year!
    Zekk
    Zekk
    ok thanks
You going to SKTAR 3? I am!
    Dr Peepee

I don't mean to kiss ass, but you are a great inspiration to me as a SSBM Marth main. I want to get better so badly, but there are not many humans in my area and I know how hard it is to play Marth at a high level. Nevertheless, watching you play so effortlessly (not too aggressive like M2K or Ken gives me confidence that I can play cool and get better in my play style.

Thanks! I just started a small team with my friend Yeti, both started a crew; Op. Meteor. We found some locals to go to, but all we have to train is ourselves and the wealth of knowledge on the net, like videos of your matches. We know we probably won't win or even top, but I hope we do well.
So what's the biggest obstacle you run into when facing Sheik? I main Sheik myself and occasionally get into a tough spot when playing against Falcos, so basically I'm asking you to BEQUEATH TO ME YOUR WEAKNESS.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
lol! sheik can be tough when she has a good PS and platform game, as well as a great tech chase game. being afraid of grabs makes your life a lot easier!
First, just let me say that you're what keeps me playing falco. I was thinking of stopping competitive melee, but every time I see you play it just makes me want to get better. One question, what do you recommend practicing against level 9 computers in melee. I know all they do is jab and powershield my shffl, they play nothing like a real human, so what do you think is the best thing to practice against them?

Ok, thanks for the tips! I'll go try them out now. I'll message if I have any more questions (assuming your inbox isn't completely filled every time you get on, I don't wanna bother you lol). I hope to see you at some tournaments in the future btw. You going to evo/mlg?

Sweet, if you're going I'm tuning in! You always bring the #hype haha
After all these years, I finally know how to waveshine! Now here's the thing: In Project M, whenever I try and go for the world famous pillar combo (whereby you down air, wave shine then do another one), when I hit the reflector, there's a bit of hit lag which makes me stay in the animation. Is there any different timing for when I hit them and when I don't?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
it takes a little longer to move after you hit them. you can pratice waveshining on hitting a cpu too.

if they aren't a fast faller you have to FH in order to keep on comboing so be sure that isn't the problem either.

Alright peepee, thanks for the heads up!

Back to the training room I go...
Couple questions haha 1. Do you view M2K as your main rival when in tournaments? 2. Are you going to CEO 2104 in Florida this year? 3. Who are you most nervous playing against?
    Your local Hipster
    Your local Hipster
Haha I knew it!!! You guys go hard!!! But if you go then I will see you and hopefully we get to battle just letting you know my sheik is about M2K status! I've been training a lot! Cool I hope I don't get nervous and choke like Leffen does lol. Hey man keep up those shines to dumpsters those are so beast!

It would have been great to see you playing at ROM but you must have your reasons for not going. Hope to see you play in a tournament soon :)
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
hope to be at one soon myself, thanks!
Do you play smash64? and if not, do you plan to in the future?
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
I don't but maybe would eventually
how much time did it take to become the smasher you are today? I practice all the time but I feel like I am making little, almost no, progress.
    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
took me about.....3.5 years more or less. practicing well and constantly is the key. if your practice isn't doing it then you gotta change it up!

    Dr Peepee
    Dr Peepee
you can search my thread on the falco boards for that.

basically, practice the basics and get amazing at them. it takes you incredibly far.
Will you be going to Collision 9 or any tournaments in the near future?
    Dr Peepee
