Can't believe I haven't posted here yet. So, as far as returning vets goes, I'm all in for my former main Snake, Wolf and Lucas. I'd also like the Ice Climbers to make a glorious return and since this here thread is not about stating what's necessarily going to happen but rather what one would wish for, I included them despite thinking they won't come back at least in the near-ish future.
Now for the interesting part, the newcomers.
First off we have Isaac. I've been a Golden Sun fan and lover since way back when the games just came out. I was 7 when I first played the original game and it hasn't released me up to this day. Often enough I find myself going back to the first two games rather than replaying the more obvious choices like the N64-Zelda games and whatnot.
While I might be extremely biased here, Golden Sun is a criminally underrepresented series when it comes to Smash. And I don't say this just because I'm in love with this series for close to 13 years now but rather because I'm not the only one who thinks like that. Golden Sun is arguably the biggest Nintendo series with no playable representation up to this day. There is the chance that a new game is in the making as Camelot, the guys behind those games, stated that "they certainly would like to make another Golden Sun as long as the fans are up to the idea" or something along those lines back in 2012.
Even though Dark Dawn, the latest installment from 2009 didn't sell as well as its predecessors - watch out, fanboy bias coming up - it was still one of the best RPG's on the DS period. It just couldn't live up to the masterpieces that were the first two games. We've seen a similar phenomenon quite often in the gaming world. Just one example being Chrono Cross. Still a pretty enjoyable game by itself but compared to the godlike Chrono Trigger, it didn't stand a chance.
Golden Sun is a series that after 13 years of existing still has a pretty active fanbase, a fanbase active enough to make them develop a third game after the story was more or less finished. And we got that game we yearned for, we got a continuation of a story we loved, we got to see the world we kept in our hearts again, we got to meet some of the old characters we developed bonds with over the years of playing the first two games.
Albeit many people say Golden Sun is just an average RPG, and I can see and understand many of the critical points they've brought up and bring up until today, the games still sold a great deal, even hitting the 2-million-mark. Even Dark Dawn, the third game, racked up sales up to the numbers of - I think - around 700.000.
I'll just end this fanboy-rant as I started it; for many people, Golden Sun has been an integral part of their childhood. For some, me included, it even was that special first RPG, the first game they downright loved. I'd probably cry if we saw Isaac playable in Smash.
Now, that was one big text here, huh? I suppose I'll shorten the next one down a bit.
While I haven't played his game, Wonder Red seems like a character I'd have a great time playing. I've seen quite a lot of Wonderful 101's gameplay and even went so far to watch a full playthrough over the course of one day. That whole multiple characters thing is a feature that I have an easy time imagining in Smash. The possibilities to make a moveset for this guy would be practically infinite.
Also the Wonderful 101 OST is a joy to behold and you all should listen to it.
Now, the next one is kind of an oddball-character. Most of us know that Neverland Ltd. and Nintendo had a great relationship and it rubbed me the wrong way that, especially after Neverland filed for bankruptcy, we've not seen any content whatsoever in Smash. I took it for granted that we'd see at least some kind of Neverland-based Assist trophy. That we got literally nothing is a real bummer.
While I've never played any of the Rune Factory games, I could really see Lest, the protagonist of one of that series' games, joining the battle at one point or another. Combining magic with a freaking pickaxe, maybe even riding a badass green dragon in the process, yup, seems alright to me. Although I don't think he actually stands a chance, being the odd choice that he is.
Other than that, while not going too in-depth on this one, I'd also really like to see Paper Mario joining the Smash. Whereas I could see him playing kinda sorta like G&W, he'd still be a representation of one of the best spin-off series Nintendo has to offer. The Paper Mario games, possibly minus Sticker Star, are just great. TTYD, the second one, still shares the spot of my most favourite games of all time with Metal Gear Solid III and Golden Sun: The lost Age.
