Great guide. Helped me get started with Ike and he's now my main.

It's between Link and Ganon. Captain Falcon is pretty much ringed out as far as I'm concerned. Ganondorf's hit range allows for some cool combos to be found and link's hook shot + gale boomerang carry serious potential.

I've been maining Ike for a few months and have yet to bypass a shield ]=

The only decent air attack he has is his back air.

yeah unfortunately the enemy has to be a certain distance away from you and most enemies tend to rush right under you.
