Zelda World gives you the content from both OOT and MM and gives you the ability to create/recreate any Zelda Storys/Quests you like for everyone to enjoy. Imagine being able to play OOT or MM and invite your friends to come play with you and help you on your quest, or even take the old N64 Zelda's worlds and add your own quests into it.

Credit to Nintendo 64's team that developed all of the art/style and everything else of the Original games that Zelda World reuses.

News:
Patch 1.0a released, jump over to the downloads page and grab it. The update includes fixes, updates and added a few bits and pieces as well, check the change log on the download page for details.

Zelda World is making steady progress in development, if this rate keeps up we should have a lot more area's done in the coming weeks and more gameplay features such as AI bad guys. In the next update we'll be focusing on getting a working NPC that will attack players, it may just end up being Link but as an NPC however we'll work on getting a different character in there. We're also looking at getting more weapons such as bombs and possibly swords in the next update for more variety.

Two things I'd like to mention, Zelda World is not an MMO, there has been articles and people talking about Zelda World being an MMO and I'd just like to reinforce that it is in fact not an MMO. Zelda World is also not a mod, its a stand alone game, not a mod of another game.
Get hyped.

confirmed. Sending Supplies.
I just saw this on ZeldaUniverse. I'm about to try it out right now. :D

EDIT: I really hope this thing can load hi-res textures because I could load my texture pack, and that would be amazing.

I hope that it isn't to tough to use. It sounds like you can make custom quests and such and then get your buds to help you with them.

Hell yeah. If we get a pretty serious following for this built up here on SWF, I'll go ahead and sticky the thread.

Wait, so I'm confused, can you actually (or will you be able to) play online with other players?

It won't be an MMO, but you will be able to invite friends to play multiplayer with you.

I doubt that Nintendo will shut this down. I don't think I've ever heard of a case in which Nintendo shuts down fan work for no reason. So I don't think you have to worry, they're not Square Enix.

They'd find a reason. Oh, and they shut down "The Hero of Time" movie.

They shut down Hero of Time because it was **** all terrible and would harm the reputation of the Zelda franchise. Fan projects that are of quality (Mother 3 remake, the millions of Pokemon ROM Hacks) are never shut down by Nintendo.

We shouldn't have to worry about Nintendo messing with this :)

Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of Mother 3! I'm assuming you're talking about the fan translation, which was a really high profile hack since it took years and years to come out.

LOL yeah Skyler's right, Nintendo's "we don't want to tarnish our image of Zelda" excuse was simply for how ****ty The Hero of Time was. Besides, remember that Zelda editor based on the original game's engine? Hundreds of games have been produced with that and Nintendo isn't complaining. Why? Because: a) the engine is custom built and b) it produces good quality products.

Zelda World is a good quality product and is built on a custom engine. It'll probably live to see fruition.

Oops, I meant to put translation instead of remake haha. But yeah, it was super high profile, and I'd take Nintendo's complete silence on the matter as support, if anything.

It's basically, "oh look, they localized it themselves, now we don't have to go through the trouble. Plus, it's not like we'd make much money off it anyway. Whatever, this series is over."

I've mentally designed a Zelda MMO many times in my head. This is a nice step, but I think a real MMO could only (and probably never will) be made by the Big N themselves. Pretty sad, if you ask me.

Well this isn't a Zelda MMO. It's a Zelda 64 sandbox game with MMO characteristics, such as playing online with multiple friends.

I wonder how they'll make that work... go the Four Sword route and play with Green, Red, Blue, and Purple Links?
