How the hell do I cancel Aura Sphere into up smash? Do I need tap jump off?

charge>shield>jump>usmash

People say tap jump on is easier for that sort of thing, but I'm content to hit X+A at the same time on 3DS. You can start the jump instantly after putting up your shield and you can actually hit A at the same time as jump for the usmash, if you're fast enough the shield graphic doesn't even pop up.
