Version 0.4- Added to gameplay section, aerial combat from edge.

Terminology [TERMINOLOGY]
More terminology can be looked up in other guides on Gamefaqs, maybe in
Melee guides.
D- down
U- up
F- forward
N- neutral
B- back
Any of these plus air = air attack with direction. Nair, dair, uair, etc
Smash- press control stick hard in a direction together with A button.
F-smash
Tilt- press control stick gently (careful not to run) then press A
button. e.g. U-tilt
B attack- any move performed with B button. Side B refers to F-B and
B-B.
Short hop- jumping a small distance, the advantage is that you get to
the ground faster. To do it, press jump button quickly. Abbreviated SH.
Full hop- FH

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Unlock details [UNLOCK]
Toon Link can be unlocked by playing Classic Mode with Link, without
game overs; beating the subspace
emissary and going back to the forest; or playing 400 matches in Brawl mode. This may be done easily with stamina match, flower (life depleting) with the computer on 1
stamina. Keep battling.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Background [Background]
Toon Link is a version of Link in games such as Wind Waker, Phantom
Hourglass, Four Swords, Minish Cap etc.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Moves/attacks [ATTACK]
There is a damages FAQ on gamefaqs, though I may add it if necessary.
This is mainly to describe their uses and knockback.
TILTS
A-A-A combo, standing:
3, 2, 5 damage
three slashes, third one hits opponent away
slightly.
Lol useful for spotdodgers. First two slashes can lead into U-tilt or U-smash.

D-tilt: 9 damage: swipe on the floor. Sends opponent upwards(?)

U-tilt: 9 damage: swipe above, can be used for juggling. Sends opponent upwards.

F-tilt: 9 damage: brings sword down to the side. Decent knockback.

Running attack: 10 damage: don't use this too often, gets predictable and if you miss you will be punished. If the opponent is at low damage, even if you hit they may be able to hit you back.

SMASHES

D-Smash: 6-8, 11-15 damage: Swipes in front of him, then back. First hit brings opponent to
second hit. Launches opponent up, good for resting Jigglypuffs. If the
second hit fails to connect, the opponent goes flying sideways, almost
always a KO.
If used on a slope, where the opponent is above you and you use the first hit of D-smash on him, he will go flying (yay)
Slopes
Corneria
Yoshi's Island

Up-Smash: 15-21 damage: Like u-tilt, but more powerful and slower. BEST KILLING MOVE. Don't make it weak by spamming it.

F-Smash: 10-14, 13-18 damage: Two hits, first one weak, second one performed by pressing A afterwards. Second one sends opponent flying. Be careful when the opponent is in the air, they may be knocked upwards slightly and the second hit may not connect.
Good for spotdodgers.

AERIALS

U-air: 14-12 damage, sexkick rules apply: Sticks sword up, keeps it their for a bit. Good power, sends
people upwards. KILLING MOVE.

Dair: 16 damage when it connects early, decreases from 13-8: Puts sword below him, shoots down. If hits opponent early, it spikes (sends opponent downwards). When he hits an opponent, Toon Link slows down, and does a pogo jump. He can move around a bit to try to hit the opponent again.

F-air: 13 damage: Like bair, but slower. KILLING MOVE. Good to gimp off the edge.

B-air: 10 damage: swipes behind him with sword from feet to head. For comboing,
does good damage, doesn't knock opponent very far. But that's not a
worry, because you can use this attack again to hit them. (Low lag)

N-air: 10, 10 damage: Two swipes like his down smash in the air, though faster. It is a very quick aerial, very useful. To hit with both swipes you have to be quite close to the opponent, and then the sword will actually knock the opponent backwards (as opposed to forwards).

Z-air: 4 damage: hookshot comes out to hit opponent or grapple the side of a stage. Not too useful for attacking. EDIT: OMG. What did I say here????? Zair is like... the best move evar.
The best way to use this is to
Short hop
Airdodge immediately after SH
hold R/L/Shield button
press A near the ground, so as to maximise the range.
When executed out of airdodge, bombs are not dropped.

SPECIALS

Side-B: Boomerang: 11, 8, 5 damage: The closer you are when you throw this, the more damage it inflicts. Ranged attack, if you press in another direction after throwing, it will go up or down. Good for approaching or defending. Opponent is stunned enough for you to attack, or use it in combination with his other projectiles to rack up damage.
Comes back to you, hitting opponent.

B- Arrow. 4-12 damage: Shoots fairly far, quite slow, but still good for attacking,
especially when used a lot. You can do two in one short hop. If you
press left or right after pressing B, then you can change directions.
You can do a technique called quickdraw, more in the advanced techniques section.

Down-B: 5-7 in air, more powerful the further away you are. 5 from ground to the side, 6 if thrown hard (with smash movement), 7 from ground up, when it explodes on you, it inflicts 3 damage:
Pull out bomb. Item that can be thrown, useful for throwing, then charging in. Try to pull it in the air while jumping away from opponent.

Up-B: 12-19 damage on ground, 14 damage in air: Spin attack, small range. Sucks opponent in to do multiple (10) hits, then knocks them away. May have some lag. Chargable by holding B. In the air, this makes you go up for recovery. High distance.

Z- button: Grab! Press in a direction to throw. Press A while holding
opponent to damage them. Down throw is good for Toon Link, can be
followed by b-air combos.

Up Throw: 5, 2 damage: Throws opponent up then slashes them.
Down Throw: 3, 4 damage: Throws opponent down then hits them, sending them slightly back and up. You can follow this up with a jump, then use bair to combo him.
F-Throw: 3, 4 damage: Throws opponent in front and kicks him (?)
Back Throw: 3, 4 damage: Throws opponent behind him and kicks him (?)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Combo [COMBO]
Firstly, be aware that TL doesn't have many true combos.
He is more of a hit and run, projectiles camping style.
His close up game is ok however, just not many true combos.
Secondly, be aware that all aerials/SH bomb pull/SH bomb throw may be followed up by quickdraw arrows for maximum annoyance.

Truish combos

VG combo:
Pull out bomb.
Use zair by canceling airdodge with A.
Throw bomb.
Running U-Smash/nair

zair combos:
Zair->nair (YA!)
Zair->U-smash
Zair->Dash attack
Zair->grab

Teh awesome bairs:
SH double bair to the end of the stage.

Not true combos
Spam SHDA (Short hop, double arrow)
lotsa projectile+bair/nair/zair chains.

Some really beautiful things with projectiles are hitting people with bombs/whatever and then following up with angled boomerangs.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Techniques [TECH]
Bow cancel/quickdraw: As you hit the ground, use your bow. There will be little
lag. Toon Link can:
SH->Nair/Bair/Fair/Bomb throw/Bomb pull/arrow->quickdraw arrow.
FH->Boomerang->quickdraw arrow
A video about this in detail:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XcODP-_bhrI
MellowD is the player who discovered the double arrow. In the
description of this video are links to his videos.

Footstool Jump Dair: I found info on this on a thread on smashboards (yay)
by NESSBOUNDER.
A footstool jump is when you jump when you are over an enemy. They will
start falling. Then, use dair to spike. Almost unavoidable.
http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=152852

Reverse Aerial Rush (RAR): This technique is used to use bair in the
direction you are running.
Run towards whoever you want to attack, press the opposite
direction so you turn around, jump and attack. You can start spamming bairs now.
After RARing (and Short Hop) a bair, you can use your bow and it should bow cancel.

Reverse Jump Cancel throw: run, and then press jump and A almost simultaneously, with jump first. Also press back on the joystick (JOY). This can actually be done in any direction.
Effect: Throws bomb backwards smoothly.

This is my (Roymaster) (TLMarth) faq, but you can use ideas from it. Super Smash
Bros Brawl is Nintendo's game.

I don't really see this as a guide so much as a brief description of TL's attacks. A damage guide would be nice, as well as a section devoted to HOW to combo, not just saying that you CAN combo. A lot of this I could get by going into Training Mode and hitting buttons.

Also, you don't need to be Link to unlock TL in Subspace. Any character will work as long as you've beaten the game.

You should make a list of all advanced tech for toon link and link. I like anything that makes link move faster or in a way that is not anticipated.

Lol this is old.

Don't pay attention to it.

Go to a different guide.

Advanced tech... specifically for TL, not sure. There's general stuff like using tethers for mixing up, or sliding off a platform which is sometimes unexpected.

Since this has been bumped, you might as well update it. Or at least get someone else to (you know, have them type it up and email it to you or w/e).
In that case, my name deserves a spot on that list.

No time right now, probably never will be time, but maybe I'll post my thoughts later on about TL's game sometime
