I... I have a confession to make. Gather around everyone.

I'm lazy.

I apologize for not telling you all sooner.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.

Just a question -- are the WWYP contests limited to prose, or is poetry accepted as well?

WWYP entries are supposed to be stories, which I think are limited to prose, but I could be wrong. You'd have to ask one of the judges.

I'm assuming it's prose-only for now, because of that very reason.

And in the event that poetry isn't allowed, would prose with segments that are poetry be allowed?

In the past. Yes, prose in the form of short stories.
This time however there has been talk about even non-fiction entries being acceptable.

The problem with a poem is that unless you're going to write a 1000 word poem, it's going to lack length.

Alright, I'm almost done but my entry is going to end up at like 2,500 words.

Should I try to cut it down, or is that fine?

I thought the deadline was the end of the 13th.
Oops.

Time Zone differences =_=

I'll probably be a few hours late with my entry, though it doesn't matter much because my 'entry' is pretty fail.

Midnight tonight...unless you need one more day.
Hey, I've yet to post my story, but I have been writing one. I've been cut short of time so it seems, and if you would extend this to 11:59 PM, October 13th, I would be much obliged.

I will try my best to have it up by that time tomorrow, but if I am not able to, so be it.

Thank you so much.

Agh. Missed my opportunity. **** work has kept me busy til 9-10 lately and I've yet to find sufficient time.

I really wanted to write out my entry for this, as it means a lot to me and my past. Oh well, perhaps it is necessary that I hold off til the next contest. I just hope it's soon.

Thanks again.

Good luck, everybody. It seems that these contests either have a lot of entries or only a few entries.

Completion of writing my story: Excitement

Realizing I pretty much repeated the same line twice in the last paragraph: Priceless

Little things like that aren't a very big deal.

CK and I were talking baout the judges due dates: both of us are fairly jam packed this week/weekend. I have a project due that is worth 35% of my grade and he has a similar circumstance. That said, once we are done with that, it shouldn't be hard to get the entries done.

Also, due to the lower than expected entries, only the Top Two will get the Smash Writer Status. Apologies, but it had to be done.

Again, congratulations on finishing, everyone! As you found out if this is your first time, it is quite difficult to actually get the words down on paper ;)

To continue on what Virg was saying, I expect this to be the last WWYP for a while. The fact is I feel a lot of people are so burned out with the contest that the people who wanted to win, have won, and the ones who haven't won yet are becoming disenchanted. What I propose is we go on hiatus for a little while, then come back with a new rule set that we feel may increase the fun that WWYP should be all about.

Thoughts?

Scav has literally been bombarding me with a bevy of prompts that could add quite a bit of spruce to the Ol' WWYP. Whenever we start back up, I think you guys will like what you see ;).

CK and I have talked about this, and I also think it'll be good to give WWYP an extended break. That doesn't mean you have to stop writing though!

Exactly, Jam. The concept is we want to take the pressure off everyone. I'd love to see a writing critique topic, similar to the poetry topic, open up in the main room.

How big is the word limit in a post on the SWF? Some stories may not fit in single posts. Would people have to double post or would they just link to an off site post of their story?

There's a 10,000 character limit in SWF posts (according to Yuna...and I guess he'd know >.>)

If you averaged 6 letters a word, that's about 1500-1600 words.

I guess you would have to double post if it were long enough.

It's a good point though.

The 10,000 character limit was from years ago, it's a lot larger now. I think it's 100,000 at the moment.

The writing critique topic sounds like an incredibly interesting idea.

I'd like to do a WWYP, but I find myself to be too busy to actually sit down and adhere to a specific topic within the time given for the contest. It'd be awesome if we could just submit work for other people to give thoughts on.

The problem with critique threads is that there aren't enough of us who know what we're talking about. When I look for serious critique on poetry or fiction I rely on peers in my class or workshops... too many people here give a "sounds good, maybe add some more" or "hmm don't like it" without really giving insightful criticism. I have a feeling that a writing critique thread might devolve in a similar fashion.

p.s. did we get rid of tags?
