Hats off to Clubba. Between this and the player location map (also another really important initiative IMO - srsly someone should sticky) the Smash 64 scene is getting better every day.
Thanks for the hat, dude. I needed a new one. I just do little things that are of interest to me but also make things a bit cooler. People like Chain-Ace/Nintendude that organize tournies are the real smash 64 heroes.

How can you rank gerson that low. He beat isai pika several times. No offense but boom isnt close to that at all.
don't think boom has even pika ditto'd isai on hyrule... ever? if not never then not in a long ass time. i'm sure if he played as many pika dittos on hyrule as isai did vs gerson he would get some wins. isai's said before good pikas are his weakness

plus my list was more of an all-around good player list (all the chars, multiple stages), not a tournament threat list. tho imo i think it's probably about as accurate as a tournament threat list too

Effort is not the main problem. It's location. You can't compare the north east to other parts of the country. The north east is very densely populated in a small geographic area. That's why you guys have it so good.
As long as you don't live in like North Dakota or something, location really isn't a huge deal for growing a local scene. Sure, it may be harder to attend out of region tourneys, but why not focus on your local scene first? There has to be a foundation or your scene won't get anywhere. This applies to all regions. I'm not really seeing any regions other than Atlantic North putting forth effort to streamline their online presence and host tournaments. This isn't directed at you in particular. It's directed at everyone.

San Francisco/Bay Area has done some stuff as well. They definitely have a good scene. It would be cool to see them make a WestCoastSSB Youtube channel and start streaming/recording tournaments. We can start up a good old fashioned East Coast vs. West Coast rivalry.

I feel like the fact that SF has a good scene yet I didn't know it existed besides ballin underscores a big problem with their online presence and visibility.

Han Solo's list looks accurate too me except for I don't know if it is fair to include Mariguas since he hasn't really played most people on the list on console.

best caracther beats second best with several chars in tourney. and superboom loses to all of isai chars on different occasions. im really suprised you think boom is better than gerson, but oh well. Everyone for theyr opinions.

If we're talking about 12 char, depends on how good Gerson's other characters are, which we don't know about. Hurray for blind speculation!

I like how people always assume that the top-top people are good with all characters. I mean they will have the fundamentals but they won't be world class most likely with some exceptions (i.e. Isai, Boom, and Jousuke judging by their 12 char crew battles/other vids)

Yea Morino, I realized after I made that list that you and Marth could potentially be on the list, but honestly I never play you guys enough or see your tourney results enough to warrant ranking.

Parallax competed in a NJ tourney recently and got second behind only Sensei I believe.

no

parallax got first and smelly cat got second last year at chain ace's tournament, then this past october he got first again in front of megavolt. to my knowledge, he hasn't been to another tourney since.

I read somewhere that his only good chars are Mario and Pika.
And was it the typical assume-a-foreign-player's-only-characters-are-the-ones-they've-seen-videos-of? Or was it someone who would actually know? Considering how (not) often the Peruvians post, something tells me it's the former.

I don't know if there are other videos of gerson's Mario... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe01wJ9TUCk
Please don't link to Craidkish. He's a video thief.

I'm not so sure about this. There are lots of videos of those two playing, and Mariguas has some pretty convincing victories. He also has a playstyle where he forgoes guaranteed kills to try for more flashy combos, which sometimes hurt him in those matches. I think it's fair to say those two are pretty close.

Including Mexico in our list is tough since generally the people on these boards don't know much about the Smash scene south of the border. Who are the other good players in Mexico? There could be several people at Mariguas' level for all we know.

I would break up the Smash regions as follows. Ranking I'm using is "average skill level of top 20 players."
1. Japan
2. South America + Mexico
3. USA + Canada
4. Rest of world

2 and 3 could maybe be switched.
Pretty sure Peru is on top overall.

Also, Alvin, the Fox user from Tacna, it's said to be on top of his country nowadays.

I'm pretty sure Japan is on top.

But we'll never find out who's right. Peru and Japan will never end up playing each other.

I'd swear that I read that in their ssb64 facebook group so apparently is someone that actually knows it.

Dont know about others. But I wasnt talking about 12 char. And since gerson hasnt played boom yet, you can call it blind speculation all you want. But we have seen allot of matches between boom and isai. And boom has never been close to do as good vs isai as gerson. Or let me put it this way. No one have. At least not recorded.

So the one with the best caracther:

gerson>boom. It isnt 100% certain, but about 85%

Even if Peru vs Japan did happen it probably wouldn't be best vs best. Unless the unthinkable happens and Jousuke, Kikoushi, Red, Gerson, Tavo, and Alvin come to next Apex we'll never know.

Plus if the unthinkable did happen, what freaking stage would they play on lolol? Japan plays 99% on dreamland and Peru plays 100% on hyrule.

Peru's better on hyrule, Japan's better on DL

I'd give 2:1 on that

In my book, that makes japan better

but that's ****ed up lol
