I'd like to hear the Metallica thing.

CC does have lyrics.

Hammar Smashed Face:

There's something inside me
It's, it's coming out
I feel like killing you
Let loose of the anger, held back too long
My blood runs cold

Through my anatomy, dwells another being
Rooted in my cortex, a servant to its bidding
Brutality now becomes my appetite
Violence is now a way of life
The sledge's my tool to torture
As it pounds down on your forehead

Eyes bulging from their sockets
With every swing of my mallet
I smash your ****ing head in, until brains seep in
through the cracks, blood does leak
distorted beauty, catastrophe
Steaming slop, splattered all over me

Lifeless body, slouching dead
Lecherous abcess, where you once had a head

Avoiding the prophecy of my new found lust
You will never live again, soon your life will end
I'll see you die at my feet, eternally I smash your face
facial bones collapse as I crack your skull in half

Crushing, cranial, contents

Draining the snot, I rip out the eyes
Squeezing them in my hands nerves are incised
Peeling the flesh off the bottom of my weapon
Involuntarily pulpifying facial regions

Suffer, and then you die
Torture, pulverized

At one with my sixth sense, I feel free
To kill as I please, no one can stop me

Created to kill, the carnage continues
Violently reshaping human facial tissue

Brutality becomes my appetite
Violence is now a way of life
The sledge's my tool to torture
As it pounds down on your forehead

i like those lyrics, i just wish i could know them w/out reading them.
give me a bit to gather my thoughts, ill edit this later with the metallica thing.
edit 1: okay, now this "formula" for lack of a better word isnt really a repitition
of notes as much as a repition of the way the song is built.
generic metallica song:
part 1: opening riff.
part 2: 1st guitar solo/freak out with a riff underneath that will be used for the following verses.
part 3: verse with said verse riff played over and over
part 4: a chorus riff where the guitarist...hm..this is where it gets hard to explain,
?he slowly goes one way on the fret board than jumps back to where he started?
part 5: 2nd solo/freak out
repeat 3 and 4.
part 6: not always there but sometimes a 3rd freak out.
perfect examples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlGjonzE424
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=455-CIgc7co
ride the lightning(song) doesnt follow this exactly, it skips the first freak out
but has the opening riff and the verse riff laid out early.
also, theres always that part before the 1nd solo, dunno what its called though, like in ride the lightning or trapped under ice, the bridge i guess? i wish i could explain this better, perhaps ill make a vid for
youtube about it lol. ll keep at this to try to make it a bit more understanable, im typin as i think right now.

Explanation.
If you want proof that growls have lyrics, just look at some deathcore growls. Less awesome, but growling nonetheless.

Walk With Me In Hell - Lamb of God
I hate this song. Just to prove a point.

Stamping your library books.
You people have no taste in music.

Bob Dylan is another fine example, though not quite as bad. I don't understand how people can enjoy his singing...maybe there's something everyone else sees that I don't?
Dylan has a good voice for his type of music (in my opinion, anyways), plus he's a great storyteller. His lyrics are pretty good, too.

I can't help but love his voice.

EDIT: I just searched the thread, and I haven't said anything that hasn't been said before.

Uh, most female J-Pop singers are way too high-pitched to be singing. Unless they edit the voice to be that high, which would mean they hate music.

I've always had a sort of love-hate relationship with Ozzy Osbourne. On some of his songs I can't stand his vocals, and on others I love them. I think he got a lot better around the Blizzard of Ozz, but I mainly dislike his Black Sabbath singing. Call me crazy.

I always hated Dave Mustaine's (Megadeth) voice, but I also dislike him as a person, so maybe I'm biased. His voice on Symphony Of Destruction is okay, but on songs like Peace Sells and Holy Wars...The Punishment Due!, I just cringe. His guitar playing is amazing, but his singing is the one thing that breaks the tie with Metallica. Jimmy Hetfield was amazing back in the day.

Mustaine's voice is always good. I don't know what you're talking about. And the tie with Metallica is shattered by guitar alone. Mustaine's guitar playing outshines Hammet's easily.

If you enjoy Mustaine's shredding enough to crave it, you can check out MD.45's The Craving, he's not the vocalist for them. Do not get the remastered version of The Craving, as it does feature Mustaine as the vocalist. MD.45 takes a completely different style than Megadeth, though, so be wary.

Best:
Freddie Mercury
Mike Patton
Jeff Buckley
Geoff Tate (early Queensryche up to Empire)
Chris Cornell (early Soundgarden before Superunknown)

Worst:
William Hung
James Hetfield (St. Anger era)
Thom Yorke (well, used to hate it, but now it's alright)
Kurt Cobain (kinda)
James Labrie (when trying to sing high-pitched)
Lots of others I can't think of right now

What? These should be under the worst category. Mike Patton can grunt, at best.

Worst:
James Labrie (when trying to sing high-pitched)
Are you referring to Dream Theatre's Iron Maiden covers? And, when is he not high pitched? He's much worse going low, as seen in their cover of Pantera's Cemetery Gates.

What? What's with all the '80's hate?
Agreed with Symphony X.

I'm not a huge Quiet Riot fan, but I love *** On Feel the Noize, and Kevin DuBrow's voice is perfect for it. I really don't understand what some peoples' criteria are for "bad voice", but most of them are pretty off.

Quiet Riot is insanely awesome though. Too bad they had such a short career.

I consider a screechy voice a bad voice. I know alot of people like those voices, but I just don't care for them.

It's kinda lame their hit song was a cover. It's like Warrant being famous for Cherry Pie, yet they hate that song lol
