Will Project:M's engine ever be 100% Melee or so close that it's unnoticeable?

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that they'll somehow be able to restore Melee's Tether grab mechanics.

I guess it might be pretty tricky, considering characters like Ivysaur, Olimar, and ZSS, whose tethers work differently than Link/Samus'.
I'm guessing they're better off as is, but do correct me if I'm wrong on that.

It would be awesome if Link, Toon Link, and Samus had the original tethers back though (being able to grab any part of the wall without automatically homing in on the edge...)

make a melee-like fox and falco texture and half the complains will die.
Then you can fix everything else in peace :)

btw, i like the ledgejumo mechanic the way it is now, as it is actually usable, whereas in melee it was always a mistake...

How about zair homes on edge and zair+A does wall? That'd be nice.

Are they even trying to make the engine as close to Melee as possible? I'm wondering, since everyone's so quick to try and distance the two games like being associated with Melee is some huge insult.

I hope it won't be 100% ssbm. If it were then what would be the point if you can just play melee?

alright, when people say this "just play melee" PM is melee improved. the characters are more balanced as well as the stages. and new modes are in PM too. Like tourny and turbo. Also, it already isn't 100% melee. they're taking the best of melee and improving upon it. They're also taking whats great from 64 and brawl

Honestly, I really couldn't care less. This may come off as a bit selfish and shallow, but all that really matters to me is having a well-balanced Smash game with lots of room for competitive depth and, most importantly, I actually have fun playing. It's same standards I use for any other fighting game I play, and seeing as I enjoyed Melee the most out of all 3 Smash games gameplay-wise and that I've played it the most, that's a good place to start to win me over. I like having that kind of engine I'm familiar with, makes it feel like an actual sequel and not all of my tech is thrown out the window. But let's be realistic here: you're not gonna replicate everything from Melee. Sorry PMBR, you're just not. No matter how many times you try, someone will always have something to complain about it. You can't make something better at being Melee than Melee itself. But what you can do is one-up it. Why imitate when you can innovate? Just my take on it.

Ultimately, PMBR's gonna do what they wanna do, but I'll trust they'll still give me a fun and deep Smash title.

Mechanics/physics details =/= Entire game

Project M w/ Lightshielding + Melee Tethers > Project M w/ Momentum Lag

Sure you and I and several others see certain things as improvements from melee, but others may not.
And they may indeed be so attached to melee that anything different than melee is bad, so I think its important that we acknowledge that these people exist.

I'd be surprised if you found many Melee people who think crawling, breversals, RAR and aerial glide tossing are bad for the game. The jury's still out on wall clinging though...it feels a little too strong to me, as it takes the tempo advantage away from the edge guarder (which might be the most important part of edge guarding).
