Will a Wii system update ruin my console if I have the homebrew channel installed?

I'm not sure if this should go here of in Tutorials, FAQs & Help, but here goes...

A while back (I think around march) I installed the homebrew channel on my Wii to play Brawl+ (and occasionally brawl-). Fast forward to about an hour ago, I picked up a copy of Samurai Warriors 3 from Game Stop and came home for some good old button mashing fun, but when I popped the disk in it told me I needed a Wii system update to play the game and that installing the update on a modified console could cause your Wii to **** itself and die. I'm pretty much technologically illiterate and could use some advice before continuing. Should I just uninstall the homebrew channel or should I be okay to just go ahead with the update? I've never used homebrew channel to run anything other than Gecko and aside from occasionally updating my Brawl+ code set haven't changed my setup at all since I installed it last spring.

I think Disc-based updates are usually little IOS updates rather than a full-blown System Menu updates, but I would and have played it safe and just played through Gecko, yeah.

Make sure you're using v1.0.8 of the Homebrew Channel before you update. If you have internet settings setup it should have prompted you to update it a while ago though so just make sure you have it before you accept the update from SW3.

The answer is no. But, the update will most likely remove your hombrew channel if it isn't up to date. However, reinstalling it with StackSmash will work.
