the wii update today blockes some apps on the homebrew channel. does anyone know if the ocarina cheat app will still load hacks, or even start. I didnt update yet because I dont know if it will prevent me from using ocarina.

Im not shure, I guess nintendo didnt want some of the apps, (like most of the emulators) to be downloaded or used.
Are you positive? That just doesn't make sense to me. The update blocks the Homebrew Channel from being installed, not used. I don't see how Nintendo would be able to block the apps the HBC loads.

They couldn't, all they could do is block the use of the HBC, which they still aren't doing, they're just stopping the installation of it. (It also doesn't allow you to install .wads onto your Wii, so, if you're someone who likes .wads, don't update your Wii). It's SAFE if you have the HBC already installed, otherwise, do not update if you do not have it installed.

This is were i found it.. http://www.qj.net/Beware-Wii-Firmware-Update-v3-4-contains-homebrew-blocks/pg/49/aid/125293
Installed WADS will still work as long as you dont use WAD manager (Channels will disappear)
Homebrew Channel still works but some apps wont
Modchips are NOT affected
Backup Loader still works
GeckoOS still works
*******You CANNOT install WADs after you update to 3.4***
Region Changer will NOT work
Downgrader will NOT work

***that is the key thing nintendo changed****

What are .wads, and is there anything else that happened with this update?

Also, will the people behind the HBC fix this soon?

At least I already have the HBC on me soooo... I'm fine even though I've already upgraded it to 3.4

I'm sure the hackers will find a way to override that cuz after all, they want to be bombarded with challenges.

.wads can be a number of things, they are most commonly known as things you install on your Wii that are channels. Such as, free VC Games or rather, injected roms. Basically, you can install games onto your Wii that aren't on the VC yet. .wads aren't required for anything if you're just going to use the HBC for Ocarina.

The people behind the HBC are going to find a workaround for it, right now, all it does is stop the installation of the HBC so, if you already have it installed you're pretty cool.

To add: The homebrew community created a workaround for the June 16 (Wii Menu 3.3) update in a matter of days. I'm estimating no more than 4 days until we get a workaround.

Edit: Yes, Ocarina would still work. But... I advise you just don't update your Wii. Unless for some reason you like to pay for overpriced VC games frequently.

I swear if Brawl+ doesn't become a reality in video game tournaments, then I'm going to find a new community to be with....like DDR or something...besides I could sure lose a few pounds the fun way...

I'm with the DDR community. (: It's not hard to do both!

The updates aren't made to stop homebrew directly, they're just firmware updates. Some of your Apps don't work because they weren't intended to be used with that version of the firmware. If Nintendo really cared about homebrew they would be doing stuff about the DS community first.

Are you REALLY good? (: Like... can you pass the song Uber Rave? (On feet)

On topic: I haven't even heard of any sort of DS homebrew. Is it really more of a threat than Wii?

All you need is an R4/M3/CycloDS and you can get any game/homebrew App you want for free.

If they spent more of their time on making quality products and games instead of trying to stop hackers, most of us wouldn't be modding and such in the first place. They never put the games we want on the Wii Shop Channel, they try to make everything too friendly to game-challenged players, and they never release enough games!

We get bored after a while you know!

So we went to the concern of Homebrew to DDR. Awesome.

Btw DDR is awesome but it takes time to get use to the movements...those 1/8 beats and unorthodox arrows really tend to screw you over.

Hopefully this gets fixed by hackers soon. If it's a crime to not want to pay for overpriced 20-10 year old games that aren't in production anymore then I guess I'm guilty. Whoopee. Hacked Smash 64 VC is awesome, I wonder if Majora's Mask has been successfully injected yet...

lol i can; and im still not "good" compared to other people i know :dizzy:
Yeah I have a friend who has (in ITG scoring) like 4 excellents on Uber Rave... it's scary. I'm not nearly that good, but it's 'cause I don't have a metal pad... or a pad in general.

@Starscream: Ooo I didn't think about injected ROMs. I was playing Wii64... well not playing it, 'cause it's pretty much unplayable... but I really wanna have Smash64 on my Wii. >_> looks like I gotta look for it now.

Majora's Mask is not going to work with injections. Smash 64 is one of the very few N64 games that does in fact.
Too bad, but it saves me some search time. Hopefully someone can figure out a way to make it work.

You really have to wonder why this gem isn't on VC yet though, Majora's Mask is great.
