OMG seriously, this game is so underrated and overlooked compared to PM1 and Super Mario RPG it is ridiculous.

I am not joking when I'm saying that this is quite possibly the best RPG ever made. This game is ridiculously better than anything I've seen made by Square Enix and if anything really deserves a 10/10.

Okay so I've ranted about how I think this game is awesome. This is WHY this game is awesome.

One, very specialized party members. This is easily one of the most important things you can have in an RPG, and my god, there is no game that does this better than PM2. Each party member has completely different properties and an entirely different moveset that works most optimally for certain situations. There is absolutely no redundancy in the four moves that each character can use, meaning that there is more balance in time to which party members are used. This is probably why they made the Quick Change badge a lot more expensive in this game. Oh, and one thing that is done so little in RPGs is being unique outside of battle. PM2 captures this element perfectly. Puzzles are solved by using party members outside of battle, and the First Strike option is just absolutely brilliant.

Two, action commands. Any RPG is way better with Action Commands, and this game does not lack at all in having unique action commands for almost every attack in the game, even for ones caused by badges. The stylish command system is also very brilliant and adds yet another level of depth to one's gameplay.

Which reminds me three, as unorthodox as it sounds, the fighting in a stage feature is really good. With occasional gifts and threats from the audience, it adds another level of awareness the player needs to maintain. Not to mention the stage malfunctioning.

Four, as you might be aware, this game uses three levels of stat meters (HP, FP, SP), which to my recollection is an ideal balance.

Five, there are also a lot of nice side distractions in this game, making it more than just an RPG where you walk around beating up enemies.

It's awesome, and needs to be recognized for all that seriously.

I loved the "100 pits of trial", took be a good hour and a half to beat. :)

I don't have the latest one on the Wii but I have the one on the N64 and GC. Great games!

Err... Well, I wouldn't worship it, but I actually like this game over Super Paper Mario...

...And SM Sunshine...

...And Pokemn XD/Colosseum...

...Etc.

But um, I'm not sure about it deserving a 10/10. Maybe a 9.5/10, because it can get boring during the long hours of characters blabbing. Even Mario falls asleep! *rimshot*

/attempt at lame humor

But that Pit is hard on an uber-1337 scale. I've only gotten to floor 80-something, then got murdered. T_T Not to mention how hard the Shadow Queen is. Beat her once, though.

I love this game a lot. That's the game I play to wait for the big day. :D

I say this is the most hardest Paper Mario games out. The first on had three OMG hard as hell foes, Anti Guy, The big azz Koopa, and Master, (this guy is harder than the last boss. x_x). Thousand Year Door have a good amount of these, but they are mostly bosses so you have to face them anyway, (except Bonetail). But Super Paper Mario's Pit is not as long and challenging, but it has two and both last bosses of the Pit was hard because they do too much damage. But I got too of topic now did I? XD But over and all, Thousand Year Door is the most challanging Paper Mario game out right now, the most simplest is Super Paper Mario. The first one is great, a lot of enemies in the game, but if you play the Thousand Year Door first, you'll beat the first Paper Mario in less than 25 hours.

Ok I'm done. -_-;

Thousand Year Door is EASILY the best in the series and was just nonstop awesomeness all the way through. Vivian ftw! I think one of my favorite parts ever in a video game is the whole " DON'T READ MY DIARY " part on the train ( if you haven't done it i suggest you do )

Wow...I have the first Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario (which I am currently playing). I have played through Paper Mario so many times in so many ways (such as how far I can go on 5/5 flower points, fight each boss without any badges, etc.).

I really need to get Paper Mario: tTYD.

Both of the last bosses in the SPM Pits are at least slightly overpowered overpowered. I had little health during the entire boss fight in the first Pit, and tried not to panic with the thinking, "If I so much as get hit by one of those Frackles (or whatever they are called), I just wasted a few hours of my life." What qualifies those puny wind-up toys to deal that much damage? (Thankfully, I never got hit).

The three Anti Guys were definitely hard without bringing some badges or Repel Gels/Stone Caps. The Master was fun to battle.

If Paper Mario: tTYD has more fights like this, then I must be missing out on a lot.

I just enjoy the Paper Mario series, for the reasons the OP described. For me, the music is excellent, there is not much need to grind levels, the partners are useful in/out of battle, and there is more than just hitting the attack button during battle. I do not worship the games or series, but they are indeed excellent.

That is definetly the best RPG for gamecube, I really liked PM2, but it was a little bit on the easy side(despite what some of you think it was easy). To go so far to say that it is better than anything square made is kind of a stretch, I mean have you even played Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross? What about FF1-FF7? It definetly one of the greatest RPGs.

Oh and Super Mario RPG is the super nintendo's PM2, so don't diss it :p.

I already worship Thousand Year Door.

Also, lol at people who couldn't beat the pit of 100 trials XD God that place sucked.

Edit: At guy above me, to say that anything Square makes is auto-gold(gil >_>) is ridiculous. As it is, FF's 1 and 2 don't stand the test of time very well, 3(the 6 one) is really the only one of the earlier FF's that stood up well. And Im not going to get in to why FF7 isn't nearly as good as people want to pretend. Im also not saying that Thousand Year Door is the greatest RPG of all time(its not really THAT different from the last one) I'm just saying its alot better than alot of random square titles.

I think the original is much better. My least favorite Mario RPG is probably TTYD, but maybe it's a tie between it and M&L Partners in Time. TTYD is still a godly game though, especially when compared to the joke we know as Super Paper Mario.
