Ok, im a long time reader first time writer (ltrftw)

Im simply wondering, why are the expections to the rooster so high?
35 characters, 42 characters WTF??
That is dream thinking as far as i can see.
This far, we 24 (?) characters are announced.
As far as i can see, there will probably be 2-4 characters more as a surprise, but that's it.

Why do you think there will be so many?
That seems kinda crazy tbh.
Or i just dont know what you are basing it on.
Enlighten me!

Uh... Sakurai saying the roster is massive?
He also mentioned 50 only to quickly dismiss it as too much.
Of course people are expecting 40+

The spelling you are looking for is "roster".

35 isn't all that much. The amount of chars grows from game to game, look at 64 versus melee. The devs said there would be an "impressive" amount of chars. There are other reasons, but I'm lazy.

Rooster.

lol.

XD I think that we have this high expectations for the Roster because: Sakurai himself said he made this game as if it was the last of the series. And making a game as such would OBVIOULSY be made to satsify most of (if not all) the fans.

...Because when Melee was still new they only showed us 12 characters before we unlocked 24.

...Indeed by looking at the past Sakurai likes to show off around half of whats in a game and then tell you "There another half you don't know about yet ;)"

Tehn again this MIGHT be this first time we will NOT do this...But with Metios, and Melee telling us differently...

Well if the Chicken doesn't like the rooster, there will be no egg. This is why the rooster must be presentable to all, especially said rooster's spouse.

It would be horrible without eggs.

Melee has 25 characters, and taking into account it's expansion over Smash Bros 64, it has DOUBLE the amount of characters SSB64 has.

35 is too little :p which is why we're getting it >=D

chill guys this game is going to be amazing and the roster will a sufficient size that you guy will love. I doubt you guys are going to main everyone on that roster. There will be at least one character no one is going to use.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

ZOMG ROOSTER 4 BRAWL!!!

*Ahem*

Ignoring the typo, the reason for the high ro<s>o</s>ster is for a few reasons.

A. All sources seem to be indicating a huge roster. No one seems to define what 'huge' is, but apparantly the developers were adding in new characters as recently as the first delay, so they've been working pretty hard on it from the sound of things.
B. The starting roster is at least 21 characters big, if not more. That leaves the secret roster, which will be very large on it's own if it's an improvement from the Melee roster.
C. "Developing it like it's the last Smash game ever." ~ Sakurai in the Iwata interview.

And more I can't be bothered to think of right now.

Bluntly, all facts point to a large roster.

lol you answer pretty quickly :)

Well if you think of games like DBZ or mortal kombat armageddon they have massive rosters, but they didnt put that much effort into each characters.
Also, it is going to be impossible to balance.

Well, they will do their best balancing, but there's not going to be a perfectly balanced game.

By the way, there are putting a bit more time in this game that those two examples, so I think they can afford to have a lot of characters and balance accordingly. lol.

Just to point out -

The characters in DBZ were basically clones of each other with random special attacks chucked onto them. Plus the broken characters were MEANT to be broken *cough*Gogeta*cough*

MKA was a rushed fan service they began working on after Deception.

Brawl has been in development for over two years now. Plenty of time to make uniqe characters and moderately (if not perfectly) balance them.

P.S. Seikishidan Soru wins the internet for that post.

Omg Drumstick From Diddy Kong Racing Confirmed
I lol'd.

I believe in a big roster because Sakurai said he was shooting for 40-50 characters. Not 35. Not 26. Also, since Sakurai said he was treating this like the last Smash game.

If you were behind Smash and this was the last game, would you only put in 26 or 35 characters?

He never said that there would be 40-50 characters. Please link me to where he said this.

The jokes been done, it was hillarious, lets move on.

I do NOT want to see more than 35. Not like it is going to be balanced there but it would be bound to get worse.

The Ancient Minister is a rooster, seeking the answer to why the chicken crossed the road. Now we know. This is all over some dumb joke. Just like the conversation in this thread. :/

As for my expectations for the roster, yeah, of course they're high. From the beginning I had heard something about almost 50 characters. I know this isn't DBZ Budokai, but still, it's possible. And like Sakurai said in the interview, he wanted to treat it like it was the last time he would ever make a Smash bros game, like this would end the series. (Of course, judging on the amount of awesome I've seen, its release might end the world)

So yeah. Wanting a large roster is in part because of what we've heard, and because it's what we want. People always dream of what they want.

Because people like to overhype themselves and think 35 is too few.
Or, you know, expect more from a game that spent 27 months in development and had 700 play a role in making it, perhaps... Also, if can give us 300 Assist Trophy, 100 pokeball pokemon, a rumored 400 music tracks, a rumored 41 stages, online options for modes that really didn't need online in the first place (homerun contest, anyone), probably 600 trophies, probably just as many stickers that have individual powerups, probably 20-25 game demos for games that most people have played (let alone beaten), different difficulty settings for all the events and stadium modes, a spectator mode (because we all know how much that was needed...), probably 75-100 items, etc then why can't they make an imaginative roster that doesn't make most people want to chug a jug of anti-freeze? It's the not the number of characters that's the problem, it's the fact that all but three characters (and two of them even based on other characters) are either from the past games or where characters they "forgot" to add in Melee (ie; Pit, Metaknight, Wario, King Dedede, Snake, Sonic, Diddy Kong, Pokemon Trainer, and Wolf).
