Why do people want to ban Meta-Knight

That's not the reason...at all. I dont think I've seen a relatively smart person state either of those moves as a reason he's broken. It's the fact that he has arguably no bad match ups, and stagnates the counter pick system.

the most convincing argument in favor of the ban is simply that metaknight is dominant, he wins over 33% of tournaments and he has only one soft counter/neutral matchup depending on who you ask, a character who himself is pretty counter pickable. theory crafting about how he is unpunishable and has broken moves etc. is useless without the real life data to back it up, peoples problem with metaknight is that he is dominating and as a result, many people are leaving their characters to play MK and further centralize the metagame. personally it doesn't bother me because MK is an easier matchup for some of my characters than other top tier characters anyway, lol

Because unlike Marth, Meta Knight doesn't have any bad match ups. It doesn't take Marth to defeat Marth. In Melee, he may have gotten a lot of wins in tournaments, but he had some bad match ups.

some truth to this but an MK can pick up a good snake counter a lot easier than someone is going to pick snake up as a secondary to deal with MK, but I'd agree that MK doesn't *totally* break counter picking

Meta Knight is just ridiculously good in all aspects of the game. Until someone discovers an L-cancel style mechanic, other characters just do not have a prayer. MK's moves are all too forgiving.
