Why are platform cancelled bairs so uncommon?

So it's a really, short, short hop. Like ness ssb64 djc ariels, that short. Why not do it?

for those that don't know what i'm talking about instead of me trying to make a confusing post, i'll just tell you to watch phanna's video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORiX3B9aiaE

It's also easiest to do if you double stick [control stick to drop, c stick to bair]

I was just wondering if people use this and i didn't know, I don't really hear anything about it. I think it's great though.... feedback?

How often are you standing next to an opponent on a platform? Why would it be more effective than shine to bair?

Raging has a point, although this would only be used as a flashy thing after someone has died.

The Lcancel is a little shady, and people usually shield on platforms, so in todays metagame the safer approach is to just wait for them to make the first move.

It would be hella cool if someone started spamming this thing though.

I use it like every match in a platform level although not quite as smoothly. A bit of my char normally drops below the platform but i definitely use it.

you can't be flashy with it after a kill becuase you have to hit to stay above the platform.

I've always found the l cancel easy and that bair has more range than a shine. d smash is probably better for the scenerio i'm thinking though

In what situation would you be using this?

Nowadays, people usually don't stay in one spot on the platform long enough for this to really work.

Uhh pillaring kinda puts people on platforms. It's pretty much just as fast as anything else you would do on a platform. so unless you're like "HMMM SHOULD I TRY OUT THAT THING I JUST READ ABOUT" for like several seconds you're just as fine as anything else you'd have tried, for time.

Up Down combos put people on platforms. . . . .

Its just flashy really. Why not just go all the way through the platform. That way if you miss you won't be wrecked because you didn't l-cancel.

You can't really pillar with this since you can't platform drop cancel your shine (although you can drop through a platform in shine, you can't bair immediately). And mathos is right. It's just as effective to drop through with the bair, so if they shield it, you're now below them. If It his them off the edge, you're in a better place to edgeguard than had you platform cancelled it. If you feel compelled to be back on the platform afterwards, drop through, DJ bair, then land on the platform, it's safer, and you can opt to not do it if they see it coming.

When I said maybe you could use it in place of a pillar, I meant repeatedly platform cancelled b-airing , not platform cancel b-air to shine to platform cancel b-air etc, but I doubt if that'd work to well either.

ah, i see now, but normal pillaring is *probably* more effective. I say probably, since i haven't checked frame counts on air time in a PC bair.

How does pillaring put people on platforms? They'd have to either jump themselves, or physically get hit by the dair/shine. And even then, it'd be more simple to just drop through the platform and do a bair like Mathos said.

This is just a "win more"; something that really won't have any real effect on the situation, since multiple things would work just as well (or better) in its place.

Someone said why not shine to bair...well shine to bair would let them recover higher, which is easier.
As far as usefulness, it seems like you could just throw it in somewhere if you don't think they see it coming. Other uses could be if you think dsmash is too risky because of lag, if you want them to have to recover at a lower angle, and if you just want to stay on the platform with them. Maybe I'm wrong, but hey, those are my thoughts.
I did this move once when I was trying to just drop through the platform and bair...it looks pretty cool I guess lol.
