Honestly I think I would prefer the retro stages to remain as is. We are already getting a bunch of FD variants so we already have a change of scenery from FD to FD.

I don't think it would do much harm to add FD variants to them though. Not to mention that the retro stages don't just have 2-3 songs per stage anymore, as exemplified by the presence of the Halberd stage on the Wii U version, so that gives more incentive towards the notion.

Well, FD Halberd has most of the work done already; just spawn on the ship, remove the platform, and turn off the weaponry.

I think a lot of the FD variants will fall under "categories".
So for example:
Ledge FD
Wall FD
That's two categories and striking them in masse could be as simple as banning all FDs that have ledges.
If there're other differences, such as two different sizes, you can split them up like...
Large with Wall
Large with Ledge
Small with Wall
Small with Ledge
... and just ban specific categories.
Of course it's also possible that there are actually a ton of differences between each individual FD stage, in which case... good luck figuring that out. The differences should be small at best, but not completely meaningless.

I'm guessing the ceiling is also different heights in each of the FD's because the ceiling height will match the original stage height most likely. In that case each FD will be RADICALLY advantageous/disadvantageous to different characters.
