With the amount of minecraft clones, I think recently it's become more acceptable to copy unique games. Plus we have also seem Playstation Allstars, which is Sonys mimic of Super Smash Bros.

So my question to you guys is what company would you like to see make a Smash Clone?

For me it was a hard one, between Capcom and Square Enix (notable mention being Ubisoft) But in the end decided to go with the latter. Mainly because Square put out equally good games from both Japan and the West. I'd imagine the roster going something like this.
Final Fantasy representative
Star Ocean representative
Dragon Quest representative
Kain from Legacy of Kain
Neku from The Worlds Ends With You
Crono from Chrono Trigger
Sora from Kingdom of Hearts
Mana represebmntative
Hiro from Mini Ninjas
Laura Craft from Tomb Raider
Wei Shen from Sleeping Dogs
Thief from Thief
Adam Jensen from Deus Ex
Agent 47 from Hitman
Front Mission representative

So that's it for now, did I miss any good Square representatives, but more importantly who would you guys like to see make a SSB clone game and who would be in their roster?

That Disney fighter thing reminded me of my roster I made for a Disney fighter. There were far less characters. I didn't cover Pixar or anything either.

Aladdin
Simba
Pocahontas
Quasimodo
Hercules
Mulan

A lot of companies could get away with it. Namely Capcom, they practically invented video game crossovers, And everyone has been wanting a Capcom All-Stars fighting game for a while. I can tell you right now my mains would be Megaman and Viewtiful Joe. Throw in some Strider too. Namco would be interesting too. Mostly for getting the chance of both Soul Calibur and Tekken characters to go at it again.

Heck I'd be down for a sequel of PlayStation All Stars. They just need to mix in more characters per franchise, like the rest of Sly Cooper's gang. Definitely throw in Dr.Nefarious too.

Outside of video game companies, I say Marvel or DC. Either of those two just seem like perfect choices for a Smash style game, with both companies having so many iconic characters.

I'm talking Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends:p,The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, and The Avengers. Have them fight against The Sinister Six, The Brotherhood, Venom and the Green Goblin, and the Masters of Evil. Throw in Ghost Rider and the Silver Surfer and you've got yourself the game of the year.

Shonen Jump, the guys who made Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece and others; have done some of these too. But none of them came to the U.S. I Imported one of these games on the DS, and it's really good too.

A drafted up a Tales version prior to its actual release. I support a Namco smash game as well as a Square-Enix. Outside of video games, I'd love to see a reboot of a Star Wars fighting game though not in the sake vein as Smash.

I'd love some kind of indie smash where dozens of indie game developers lent their characters to a smash like fighter.

Would never happen but it would be awesome.

Yeah an Indie Super Smash Bros would be good. Something like a Team Meat representative, I think the Minecraft guy would be another essential, CommanderVideo from BitTrip, Castle Crashers, Sword and Sworcery's protagonist, Kid from Bastion, Spelunky, Cave Story's protagonist & Jacket from Hotline Miami. I think level from Fez would also be pretty crucial (plus that is one bad-ass game.) But also stages from Braid and Limbo

Nice a Disney Super Smash Bros could work well.

I'd probably play as the Wolf from Okami.
Also another Idea I have is more of Vs. fighting game between Double Fine & Telltale, with Tim Schafer and I forget the guy from TellTale, merging together once again.
TellTale could have Hector, Lee Everett Guybrush, Sam & Max & a lot of characters within those series. Whilst Double Fine can have characters from Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, The Cave & Costume Quest

Capcom probably has the most to work with in terms of video game companies.

PSABR is nothing like Smash.
I know the gameplay is quite different, but didn't they get professional Super Smash Bros players to balance the cast. I'd also say the closest in comprison to PSABR is Super Smash Bros. It certainly doesn't play like arcade fighters, and I'm pretty sure PSABR was trying to target the Smash community.

I believe you're missing the true key to success with this roster....GASTON.

In all seriousness, a Square Enix Smash game would be really awesome. Maybe Geno could be an unlockable character, and appease all the Geno fans.

What I would personally love to see, though, is a Smash Bros-esque Marvel game. (I know they have Avengers: Battle for Earth, or whatever, for Wii U, but I mean a legitimate fighting game that really digs deep into Marvel history). I can't complain, though, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 had a nice Marvel selection. We got some of the greats, like...MODOK. (That's not sarcasm. I like MODOK.)

Or a Microsoft Smash game, where you can only choose from Master Chief, Banjo/Kazooie, Conker, and some guy from Gears of War. And if you think THAT'S exciting, don't even get me started with the phenomenal third party cast. They're all nameless decorated war vets. :troll:

iPhone games. Most casual fighting game ever.

Roster
Red Bird (Angry Birds)
Bad Piggy (Angry Birds)
Crazy Dave (Plants vs. Zombies)
Zombie (Plants vs. Zombies)
Sensei (Fruit Ninja)
OmNom (Cut the Rope)
Swampy (Where's my Water)
Doodler (Doodle Jump)
Guy Dangerous (Temple Run)
Barry Steakfries (Jetpack Joyride)
Mr. Toffee (Candy Crush)
Tiny Bird (Tiny Wings)

Mostly kidding, but it's an interesting idea, no?

Still up Peach's dress.
Warner Brothers would work nicely I think:

Looney Tunes:
Bugs Bunny
Daffy Duck
Taz
Sylvester (with Tweety possibly)
Wile E. Coyote

DC:
Batman
Superman
Wonderwoman
Flash
Green Latern
Robin(Teen Titans)

Harry Potter:
Harry Potter
Ron Weasley
Hermoine Granger
Snape
Voldermort
Hagrid

Mortal Kombat:
Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Liu Kang
Shao Khan
Raiden

Misc:
Emmet(Lego Movie)
Maxwell(Scribblenaughts)
The Kid(Bastion)
Buster and Babs Bunny(Tiny Toons)
Yakko, Wakko and Dot(Animaniacs)

There's like a billion other series under Warner's banner, but here's an initial list.

Main problem with an indie smash is everybody will have their own vastly different idea of who should be in it.....and if you only add mainstream Indies, is that really in the spirit of indie?

I initially thought an indie smash would be a logistical nightmare, but Indies don't seem to be as difficult as mainstream developers when it comes to cameos.

Over on kickstarter there's a racing game that's getting cameo racers from other games currently on kickstarter.

I guess it would be cool to see a Smash Bros. clone from Capcom, Sega, or even Disney. They all have extremely iconic characters that they could definitely work with in a fighting game (though, Capcom has their own share of fighting games).

To be honest, I'm surprised that Microsoft hasn't made their own sort of Smash Bros. Nintendo of course has Super Smash Bros. while Sony has PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, so I wonder if Microsoft will make their own all-star fighter.

But there's a catch, the cameo racers are only accessible if you back both the racer and the game the cameo comes from. (And one of those kickstarters ended a few hours ago)

Well, they have Master Chief, Avatars, …umm… Banjo-Kazooie?… and… a generic Call of Duty soldier as a guest character? Yeah, you're right.

They have Killer Instinct which is plenty to work with from a fighter standpoint, and Gears. Could have one of those generic Fable heroes as well.

Not that I really care if something like an X-Box All Stars Battle Royale were to happen.

I often think about how cool it would be to make an fighter-crossover game based on (mostly but not only) old german literature.
My Roster would be something like:

-Faust(Goethe)-
Heinrich Faust
Mephistopheles
Gretchen

-Sandmann(Hoffmann)
Nathanael
Sandmann Coppelius (+Coppolla)

-Woyzeck(Büchner)
Franz Woyzeck

-Bahnwärter Thiel(Hauptmann)
Thiel

-Verwandlung/Metamorphosis(Franz Kafka)
Gregor Samsa

-Effie Briest(Fontane)
Effie Briest
Major Grampas
Geert von Instetten

Most of them would be normal people (except for Mephistopheles who is the devil and Gregor Samsa who was turned into a gigantic bug),
but could be kinda upgraded or overvisualised with their thematic.
For example, Woyzeck would should peas and wear a knife, Thiel could summon a train to overroll his enemies, Coppelius would be a fire based character (maybe with a transformation into Coppolla), Major Grampas & Geert von Instetten would fight with a gun, and and and...

Whoa Wegenbarth, that sounds like a game you'd play in an intellectual parlor.

Would Woyzeck look like Klaus Kinski?

That's funny, I thought about doing a similar one, but exclusively the Universal Monsters. It would have had Abbott and Costello as secret characters.

When it comes to gaming, Sega or bust. They're the only game company after Nintendo and Sony whose characters I adore in such numbers that I'd be willing to play a crossover fighter featuring them. I've also always wanted to see a massive crossover fighting game featuring all of gaming's most iconic sword-wielders, though I'd prefer that play more like SoulCalibur than Smash.

Outside of gaming, classic cartoon characters (think of the sort of characters that crossed over in Roger Rabbit, but in a video game). Oh, and cereal mascots. I would wreck house with Sugar Bear.

Namco could do it all by themselves.
Pac-Man
Tekken
Soul Calibur
Xenosaga
.Hack
Klonoa
Katamari Demacy
Dig Dug and i could go on

i liked the idea behind Cartoon Network Punchtime Explosion but it was executed fairly poorly. so id like to see another crack at that and possibly one for Nickeldeon considering they have shows that would offer great fighters like Avatar and Ninja Turtles. i would be down for those
