is there any specific way of grabbing when it comes to tech chasing? like should i be JC grabbing? or is shield-grabbing just as efficient?

it doesn't matter which you do as long as you know you will get there in time to grab...but I would never shield grab because shielding stops your forward movement

I would only shield grab if I thought that my opponent was planning a get-up attack. Otherwise, follow the roll and JC grab.

while on the subject of jc grab

while playing i always use my index finger for my R trigger, which is what i use for everything including shielding, wd'ing and L-C'ing. so..when most people JC grab do they readjust their hand completely to have their index on Z and their middle on R for the whole match? i tried it and it felt pretty awkward..

i always just use index on z and middle for L-canceling
