di the fair up and inwards so that you overlap them? you will still probably get spiked just more towards stage? i assume if you try to di outwards you can't di far enough to escape, and diing outwards and downwards probably makes it just that much easier

It depends what percentage you're at, whether Marth sweet-spotted the FAIR, and whether he needs to double-jump afterwards.

If the Marth double-jumps but didn't sweet-spot the FAIR, DI down should save you. If he sweet-spotted it, popping you up for a double jumped DAIR, you should DI up to hit the non-spike part of the attack.

It really depends on your fall speed, your damage, etc. Tell me what character you're talking about and maybe I can be more specific.

Ok, let's discuss where NOT to DI if a marth is attempting the Ken combo on a marth. Thus far I have deduced that DI away and DI in do not work (from my match with KM last Saturday). Am I right? Either DI up to hit the non-spike portion of the attack or DI down to avoid it altogether?

It depends on way too many things to tell someone where to DI. Sometimes DI upward can hit the non-spike portion, as you say, but if you DI down the Marth can usually still hit you. But if you're far enough away from the stage he may have to sacrifice his own life to do so...

sorry to ask here..but i've been wondering how much it will affect my attempts to learn to edgetech if i don't hold L almost to the trigger before trying it.

I mean, how much time will be lost in the time the L trigger goes from totally unpressed to totally depressed..i'm wondering if i have to train myself to be partially holding down L during my recovery moves...because as i understand it to tech you need to press the button all the way in.

so anywyas, can i learn to edgetech without depressing in advance? or is it too much effort?

i figure you should know shai since you go with that crazy claw method just for speed
