I find pivot fsmashes so useful in punishing players for incorrect spacing. I don't see many players apply it very often though, despite the kickass-ness of successfully predicting and countering with such a powerful attack. I don't find there are many disadvantages to whiffing it either, depending on the character who does the pivot fsmash. Since you run back a small distance before the fsmash, the initial lag is harder to punish, and the range of most fsmashes makes it very hard to capitalize on the wind-down lag.

In this video here, a ridiculous amount of fsmashes are landed as Falcon. I'm not extremely proficient with Falcon combos, and while playing against a player who clearly has a grasp of basic Falcon combo-try, I manage to make it to 2 stocks.

So, tl;dr, why doesn't anyone pivot fsmash?

When I first learned what dash dancing was, i pivot fsmashed all the time with kirby :D. Its really effective with kirby because of the fast execution. I still use it with Falcon and sometimes Fox if I play people that have obvious intentions of just attacking from above.

Yikes, you weren't kidding. Never seen so many fsmashes landed in a Falcon ditto.

I do it often with Link, when an enemy is closeby and there are no platforms, I lightly throw a bomb upwards, dash away and pivot fsmash. The bomb shuts out an aerial approach and forces them low. If they see through the setup and don't approach, it's hard to punish because of the bomb and range of the fsmash.

The reason pivot Forward smashes aren't used as often as you want is because a whiffed one or even blocked pivot Forward smash with some characters gets you punished. Characters like Falcon, who are combo bait will get punished by competent players by people who ***** pivot forward smash.

You have to do it when you know you will hit. Easier said than done but I do do it sometimes when I think I see an opening

Looking at your video, its clear your buddy isn't a very competent falcon player. He could just be having a bad day though

i pivot fsmash all the time. but it is true, as mentioned earlier, that it depends on the person youre playing against. a lower level person would most likely fall into the trap of being pivot fsmashed

I like pivot smashing a lot, I only do it if I'm 99.99999% sure it will hit, based on my analysis of my opponents attacking patterns, I rarely miss a pivot smash because I never spam them.

Pivot smashes aren't as good as they seem to be...You can get punish easily compared to what you think. People you play must really have no clue of pivot smashes because in that video that guy was clueless everytime -_-
