When it comes to 3rd party characters, I think people need to realize something...

No, I'm not going to sit here and talk about these imaginary 'slots' which people limit themselves to. As far as I'm concerned, Sakurai won't care about that as long as the characters he add can turn a considerable profit.

And that's what I'm here to say - when Sakurai adds 3rd party characters, chances are it'll only be ones that will be able to sell more copies of Brawl, by name alone. Needless to say, Snake is easily one of those characters. But who else would sell simply by name?

Cloud (who CAN get in, despite antiboy rantings)
Mega Man
Sonic
Master Chief (don't worry - he still can't get in)

It's those three who would sell games.

Oh - and MAYBE Scorpion, but that's a stretch.

And there's one more - who wouldn't sell games by name, but just plain deserves it. Pac-man.

I really don't agree. Anyone with half a brain knows that Brawl will not have any problems selling copies (even becoming sold out for a while) to warrant only characters that will as you say "sell more copies".

A popular character that has been suggested is Geno, so he won't get in because he wouldn't sell as much as say Snake?

I really don't think the selling of Brawl is a big issue when it comes to 3rd party characters, because regardess if 3rd parties were in or not Brawl is going to become a best seller. I don't agree with a character being in (Cloud) just because he could so called "sell more copies"

That has always been my stance when it comes to 3rd parties. "So-and-so is important to Nintendo! So-and-so "chances" are low because it was only on one Nintendo game" Oh please....

This is not only a deal between Nintendo and a 3rd party. It's a chance for BOTH sides to profit greatly. Think of how well MaSato will sell if Sonic is in Brawl? Think of how many more people will get brawl just for the Sonic and Mario fight? Hell, I already see MGS fanboys saying that they are going to get a Wii + Brawl just to play as Snake.

I think Sakurai's plan is to add characters that would generate the most postive impact. So I say Sonic/Megaman/Bomberman/Pac-Man would fit the bill.

Geno is a special case. Sakurai considers him 1st-party.

Besides; if Cloud gets in, with nothing more than his mediocre KH cameo appearance to stand on, then Geno's chances increase even FURTHER.

Hmm that is interesting. Though when did Sakurai consider him a 1st party player? To be best of my knowledge about this Sakurai considered him to be a Mario character. (Which he should be considering he's only starr'd and had a major rule in SMRPG). Geno would still be considering 3rd party unless Nintendo bought the rights for him.

I just want to know the facts regarding this.

It should be right on here, no? Sakurai compiled a list of 1st and 3rd party characters, based on his own poll results. He put Geno on the 1st-party side.

Cloud getting in would generate negitive impact by most reasonable gamers.

Cloud was only in one game and it was a cameo role. If he gets in for that then many sensible gamers would be irate at this.

Oh yeah...Cloud would generate positive impact by fanboys....*shudders*

It will either be Sonic/ Bomberman/ or Megaman...taking into account Geno as a special case...

People have to realize that Bomberman has a lot better chance than they realize...

I only see potential 3rd parties as being Sonic, Megaman, or Bomberman.
As of right now Sonic is the frontrunner for becoming included as a playable 3rd party character. Due Sega's past rivalry with Nintendo turned friendship (M&SAtOg) he is a shoe in unless something odd happens.

Now Megaman I don't know much about; however he did get his start on a Nintendo system iirc; and his games seem to have went over very well so I would say he's a likely candiate as well.

As for Bomberman what does his inclusion bring to the table? He doesn't seem at notable as someone like Pac-Man so if someone could elaborate more on Bomberman's history and reasons for inclusion that'd be great.

(Ninja Giaden) Ryu has a decent chance IMO with new DS and X-box360 games coming. His popularity also has grown in recent years. His chances are nowhere near Sonic/Megaman/Bomberman tho.

Your going by your assumptions of Bomberman...

He's bigger in Japan and one of the only people that has been in a game with Solid Snake. It's not what he could offer that ups his chances...It's the relationships within the companies and etc. Besides, everyone knows Bomberman games...one of the best since the NES. A classic nintendo icon...except on 3rd party.

I see, that's why I asked if someone could elaborate more on the Bomberman subject. I don't think it was as much as an assumption than a question.

What about Ratchet & Clank. Although it's very unlikely, they'd fit perfectly into Brawl.
You just said they were unlikely so you just answered your own question...

Sonic/ Megaman/ Geno (If you don't consider him a special case)/ and Bomberman are the only 3rd party characters that have a chance

I never asked a question. I was just stating that they'd make a good addition and what about Rayman?

nobody can tell what 3rd party characters have a chance. its just pure, bias-blinded speculation. 3rd parties are a special case when it comes to smash: they either are in, or they're not. there's no way to tell. I'm certain nobody would have guessed solid snake, and if they did, they would be flamed to death. trust me.

Well they would have been flamed regardless because no third party companies were allowed until the unveiling of Snake

Thats tru. If they announced 3rd party characters would be in Brawl without saying who, would Snake be the first thing to come to peoples minds? I doubt it.

Yeah Im sure cloud can get in, a cameo in a GBA game is so deserving he HAS to be in brawl [/sarcasm]

anyway the only ones making the shot in my eyes are sonic (duh) and megaman (2nd most wanted 3rd party)... so yeah...

problem is, people are a bit too shallow when it comes to third parties. the only way a 3rd party is IMPOSSIBLE to get in is if said character belongs to sony. master chief, while unlikely, CAN still get in, since microsoft and nintendo aren't exactly competing companies. I mean, microsoft and nintendo were going to make a halo DS game together (which was cancelled, since nitendo thought it would't sell enough, even though there are large petitions rising for it to be brought back to life)
cloud can still get in, since he represents an entire franchise which has appeared on nintendo consoles.

so really, nothing is ruled out, unless it belongs to sony. theres really no way at all to tell who can and who cant get in.

Microsoft doesn't really own Master Chief, Bungie does...and I think it would have been Nintendo and Bungie working on Halo DS and not Microsoft

What does Bungie really expect after selling their souls to the devil...
