Well Oli is by far my favourite character, because he has projectiles, and i loved the Pikmin games A LOT.

But when I found out he was actually pretty decent I started using him more and more, but I didnt find any of my own advanced techniques, nor just now, find any in the stickys.

So how do you play with oli? I mean you really gotta just invent your own skill with him, because there isnt no bsticking or any techs like that for him.

Personally I find his Forward b ( throw ) then grabs work great for racking up damage

I start off highly aggressive then go into a position to bait them. After doing that, I usually push them back while F+B to fairs and whatnot and go back to defensive.
Switching up defensive and offensive is how you get good with him. Don't be -just- defensive.

Agreed, despite popular opinion, Olimar isn't a campy character, F-B is there to annoy, rack damage and create openings, but you can't hold people down with it.

I start off playing very defensively. I'll go toe to toe with most spammers as I hurl Pikmin, but then I'll go onto the offensive. I'll start approaching from the air with SH Neutral Airs and Forward Airs, instead of the expected grab. I'll start to bait them out of a shield and grab. I get especially offensive around 100% when most people retreat to racking up damage with Pikmin. It's a nice little surprise to watch Olimar get pissed off and go balistic with 6 hit combos.

Mind games is the key term that every Olimar player should be aware of, no matter what your style is. I usually start off throwing any whites I have and go into dthrow combos at the beginning and aproach by throwing pikmin to throw them off guard. Depending on my position I do fairs or smash attacks. Olimar in my opinion is the most diverse character and no 2 olimars will ever be even remotely close in playstyle. Though has rep to be the gayest character in the game, I still love Ols. =)

I find his throwing F-B making me worst than I am. Because majority of the time you lose pikmin and then yea.

What are his dependable moves and his not so great moves?

>b as an approach, down throw combo's, when you need spacing and extra damage go auto cancelled fair > f smash.
i kinda picked that up from a toon link who nairs into the QD arrow or whatever and you can't get near him and it builds damage and catches people off guard.
it works amazing with olimar though and it leads to grabs. low percent down smashes can also lead to grabs if you're quick enough
olimar is pure mind games

Agressive its just too much fun going around smaking people in the face with a pikmin not too, standing there spamming sideB and fsmash sucks and I hate other olimars who do it.

In the jawn, with the jawn.
I feel that being defensive works first. Latches, and D Throw"combos" to start off a match. I feel progressively getting more agressive as the match goes on and their damge goes up works great.

Repeat on new life.

lol, "pretty decent" I have to admit, I have NEVER played any of the Pikmin games and honestly have not the faintest idea how I decided to pick up Olimar, since he seems, to most people, a purely appeal character, you have to know what he's all about to use him otherwise whats the point? Luckily my local Gamestop is holding a copy of Pikmin 2 for me which I plan on picking up tomorrow :bee:

How does it make you worse? yes you lose Pikmin but it's a key part of using Olimar.
Pikminless is my style. It's the last thing they expect, and when I win, lulz ensue.
And how, exactly do you win?

I usually start a match on the defensive, to learn what my opponent would do in the situation that I start spamming Pikmin so I can learn what to do and what to expect when switching between offensive and defensive.

The Pikmin that surround Olimar make for a very busy environment. Olimar's smashes charge with relative subtleness, and more than once I've been able to charge one up without my opponent taking note. Then... BOOM! Fully charged F-smash for an early kill! Oh, and if you ever get the chance, choose Luigi's mansion, you can make a deadly U-smash trap on the bottom floor. Get close enough to someone under that floor and spam U-smash. They'll bounce up and down until they DI out of it, during which u can finish with a F-smash. I like to call it "Oli Dribbling."
