What do you mean by the "end of the world?" Do you mean when humanity dies off? Or when the earth becomes uninhabitable?

Right now, there's no telling when either of those will happen. We could kill ourselves off through nuclear war pretty quickly. Or we could do it slowly by killing the environment with pollution. Other than those two, there's always the outside chance of an asteroid or something. If it's large enough, it could wipe out everybody on the planet.

Eventually, I figure humans will develop interstellar travel. Not faster than light, mind you. That's probably something that'll only happen in science fiction. But I'm pretty sure that we'll eventually spread out of this solar system, and once that happens humanity won't die off for millions of years, at least. Not until the entire galaxy goes, at least.

I know that all this speculation is a far cry from my usual debate hall persona. That's because really, there's no way to know what will happen. However, I have confidence that people will cling to life as hard as they can, so I'm betting the race will go on for at least a few centuries longer.

I noticed in the news that the Earth's ozone layer is deterating bit by bit everyday. In a couple of years down the road, it will be gone completely, thus exposing use to harmful ultraviolet sunrays from the sun. God forbid that we all harmed from all of the radiation.

well i saw a tv show once showing people with rare diseases/disorders and such, and one person had something where he was over-affected by uv rays (something like that, anyway...), and anytime he wanted to go outside he had to wear this full-body suit to protect him from the sun. if it came down to it, i think we'd all just have to start doing that.

I don't see a future for Earth its pretty sad that I believe that, but looking at how everyone does nothing but make things worser with only a few who care pretty much says were screwed. Sooner or later humans may not be able survive for long and we will all die out. A fitting end for us.

Agreed.

Anyway, I'm a strong believer in heaven, so I say once the end of the world happens we can just kick back relaz and enjoy a new even more f'd up species

That's gonna suck if that happens.

We probably have more than they do. We hate them too. They bomb us once, we'll remove them from the map.

But I'm just saying that if something as crazy as what you said happened.

Not a bomb a couple of nuclear bombs together can take out a state.
Yup. There's fifty of them. I'm sure we can still survive without one of them.

And I'm sure Muslims, a religious group, doesn't have 'a couple' nukes, nor enough airplanes, etc, to even pull a stunt like that.

Humans are going to die off before the planet will. Like a friend of mine told me, the planet can take what we're doing to it. We can't take what the planet is doing to us. If we continue to do what we've been doing to the earth, that will just make it easier for the earth to get rid of us.

After we're dead, the earth will no longer be faced with the problems we create, and life will have a new beginning. It wouldn't be the first time a dominant species was wiped out.

The Earth is not a living thing. It cannot want to get rid of us because it cannot want anything.

To all people predicting doom in the near future: any real concrete evidence? reasons? It looks to me kinda like people are just being cynical because it's currently fashionable, and haven't yet actually thought about it.

Frankly, I don't care about ruining the planet, and I was not describing the earth as being a living creature. I was referring to the climate change and so on. The things that effect humans in their day to day life.

To me, the threat of global warming is largely exaggerated. Withing the next 50 years???? Sure, whatever. I never said the end will come in the near future. I was stating that it is for sure an end will come. I don't know, it could be milleniums for all anyone knows.

cynicism is overrated, cynicism of cynicism is way cooler

Also interstellar travel can be pseudo-faster than the speed of light if space can be bent around a fourth spatial dimension... although I have no idea if it is even remotely possible.

Pretty sure there's a no on the Earthquake, but the 100 year war had all of those. English basically did a form of medieval carpet bombing, where they formed a long line several miles long and destroyed everything in their path, bringing famine (though famine was pretty common already). Then, the black plague hit them.

what are you going on about that for? its like that thing i used to do when i was little, id try to burp, cough, fart, throw up, hiccup, ect. all at the same time to see if id really die (im sure many of you heard something like that at some point before)...truth is, you wouldnt die. same thing applies to the world. if you get 20 disasters (that are somewhat common) to happen at once, theyre still not going to be enough to kill off the planet or the population.

It also sounds like Smashplayer is talking about that "The Day After Tomorrow" movie. Either that or Revelations.

The earth will end up being "swallowed" by the sun once the sun uses all of it's hydrogen and begins to use the helium it has.

AHHHHH!!!! FIRESTORMS AND ASTEROIDS!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!

Um . . . ahem, yeah.

Well, I don't know whether this will kill off humanity, the earth, or neither, but I predict that there will be another world war in the next century, for one of two reasons: energy, or water.

Both reasons would be because of human population growth. Over the past few centuries, the world's population has been growing exponentially (I know the growth rate has slowed a little, but its still growing really fast). The direct result of this is mass consumption of water and energy resources.

Luckily, science is improving, and people are realizing that energy sources are a problem, and most likely enough alternate energy sources are going to be found and used that this won't be an immediate problem again for a couple centuries. The problem is water.

A lot of people don't realize that water can be an issue at all, especially in the US where water is a pretty abundant resource. However, even if all the current freshwater sources in the world were clean enough to drink, places like China, India, and the Middle East would still be scrabbling for water, and the problem would only get worse as the world population grows.

The outcome would be a major war over resources, which could mean nuclear holocaust, which could mean everyone but the roaches are dead.

Or it could be a false alarm.

Oooooh *spooky voice*

The really funny part is that water is completely recycleable. It cannot be used up. So with leet math skills you could predict the exact number of people that the Earth's water supply could support... although IIRC there's a form of hydrogen fuel cell that produces water and electricity from sunlight.
