What would happen W/O the Short hop

on my way home one today i was thinking about brawl and how its going to change the smash community. Then i thought what if it was exactly the same as smash except they took out short hopping?

in my opinion i think the game would feel very akward and strange.:confused: :urg: :urg: :confused:

Yeah, they won't take it out. It would kinda suck if they did. About his username, I only find it offensive if he's not black.

You wouldn't be able to use aerials on grounded opponents and some B moves would be drastically less effective... Was there really a need for this thread?

What made you decide to post this o.O Of course it'll feel awkward...it's the most fundemental advanced tech there is. If there was no short hopping, we would continute to play melee. Simple enough. And yes, I find his name slightly offensive.

That is very true. It would drastically change the game. You wouldn't think that one little aspect like taking the sensitivity of one button would due much, but he** yeah it would. Just think about it. Taking away the short hop would pratically be like taking away comboing for advanced players. The way we play would have to be reprogrammed into us.

However, Masahiro Sakurai would never allow this to happen.

Why would they take out the short hop? Thats like taking out walking or something similar... It was never added to be an advanced move, its just a realism thing... Its such a common thing in platformers anyway, Mario could do short jumps since friggin SMB 1985!

Preety much in all videogames(Except for 2D fighters),you can notice that in almost every video game,by lightly tapping a jump button,the jump would be shortened,I don't know if this w as intentionally inmplemented,or if it's a physics exploit.I really could give technical details on why such a phenomenal occurance,but I have a theory(An uneducated on,lol).

I'm guessing that when you release the jump button early enough,it causes the incline animation of the character to hault,just like in SMB.It seems logical nough..but,in all honesty,i'm only guessing bassed on the games that I've played.:ohwell:

That's what happened in the original SMB, but in Super Smash Bros. melee,
the shorthop has a pre determined height for each character, and is performed
by letting go of the jump button before a character's "knee bend" animation is complete.
Hence why Fox and Pichu shorthops are hard to pull of, while Bowser's and Samus's are easy.

In my opinion, the SH is the most important component in the SHFFL as far as quickness goes.
But the short hop is an important part of the game so I doubt it will be taken away.






So basically almost all games except for 2D fighting has a SH option. does it work in Pokemon?

Of course! But I heard it was removed from D&P.
I'd hate for them to remove short hopping from Brawl because I can finally pull it off consistently. Now that I've been using Doc, I can SHFFL, unlike when I used Marth. It gives me such an advantage over my friends and its so useful all the time.

if they took out sh'ing it would make most players weep, mainly capt Falcon and Marth. I think they should make a jumping competition where its just like Home Run Contest but you have to jump vertically.

Well, that is a good argument, but it sort of has a different meaning when used between two African Americans. At least that's what I understand. In that sense, it's almost like two different words. Sort of like how gay can now mean anything from Homosexual to stupid to boring.

SHing is extremely important.Like for example we pronounce SHFFL "Shuffle" or "Shiffle". With ought the ShortHop we will pronounce it "fufle" or "fiffle".

NOTE: Who ever is offended by a username should leave the internet.

The short hop is essential to gameplay, it should never and would never be taken out.

Also, about the screennames, sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. However genocide is a topic that shouldn't be taken lightly.
