Title's got it happening - what was the first cause of the universe and why or why not?

Was it the God of monotheistic religion, the Big Bang, Flying Spaghetti Monster, Dre's Mum?

Allright, I'll start us off then.

I believe that the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) is the first cause. There isn't, nor is there a need, for the first cause to meet specific criterion so I'm at liberty to assert the FSM initiated the Big Bang, etc.

Since there's no need for the first cause to meet any specific criterion in your opinion, I have no need to consider your opinion.

You should start again :p

Why wouldn't you need to consider his opinion?

I know you were just trying to dabble in sophistry, which I like doing as well, but all he said was that the first cause specifically has no criterion to
meet. He didn't say conditions for existences in general don't exist, or that conditions for logical assertions don't exist.

Maybe it's you who needs to start again.

Had to add that last line for the dramatic touch.

I'd say the Big Bang, by way of random quantum fluctuation. It is simple as it only invokes the creation and destruction of matter/energy in a way that has been already observed. The net result is nothing, exactly the same as the start. This is further supported by the observation that the universe has 0 total energy, meaning that no net creation occurred, much like in a quantum fluctuation. In short, the universe came from nothing.

RIFLES ARE USELESS
I'd say this topic is impossible to debate because we have absolutely no idea and the only assumptions we could come up with would be silly and flawed
