Well the obvious choices as listed:
SSB64
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS

Well at the moment, Melee is my favorite. But that is sure going to change after SSB4 comes out :)

This is likely to be flamewar bait. (My answer is that Brawl is underrated and my personal favorite but a lot of it is that I think it has easily the best roster which makes up for its slowness)

But you could totally salvage the thread... Like, what is your favorite Smash (Attack) of all time?

My answer would be Ivy's up smash

Yeah...

This could be bad...

I'll be watching this thread. So nobody turn this into a Melee vs Brawl thread okay?

lmao

The reason I liked Melee so much is that it was so fast, and you could get alot of combos. SSB4 is going to probably be better than Melee, and Brawl won't be played as much competitively.. (imo)

Brawl's competitive scene was absolutely atrocious, which was particularly because of the poor gameplay mechanics of Brawl (tripping, slow turning speed, slower falling speeds)

SSB4 will be way better than Brawl, but possibly better than Melee.

My favorite would have to be Brawl. Why? Everything EXCEPT gameplay. The most extensive array of fighters to date, the most epic soundtrack EVER...it's just a WHOLE mess of Nintenstalgia, on one disc.

I will say that the music was the best in the franchise, but besides that, I didn't like Brawl that much at all.

The only thing I didn't like, as I've said already, was the gameplay. Melee blows Brawl out of the water in that aspect. Heck, Smash 64 does too.

Now hold on a minute, this thread is starting to descend into a Melee vs Brawl thread, which is what the mods told us not to do.

Brawl wasn't COMPLETELY bad, but I do prefer Melee.

Going to have to say the original. This was the game that introduced me to the franchise, which is my favorite video game franchise to date. Spent countless hours all on just one game and it has remained among my Top 5 favorite games of all-time.

For me, it just HAS to be melee without any question but it's not what you might think. There's reason why I loved the game but not why I consider it my best game of all time and thus, best smash game.

It's simple: If I haven't played melee, this message wouldn't exist, my account here wouldn't exist, I would not follow the video game industry, not play video game as much and basically, I wouldn't love video game as much as today.

Playing this game for the first time allowed me to discover how video games are art and not just a time burner. I lived the best gaming experience of my life because I was introduced to a level of fun unimagined in my eyes. It's because of this game alone that I bough a Gamecube after selling it, that I still enjoy old games and that I'm still interested in games of today (bough mk8 the day of release). I can tell you that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to even get a similar experience again because I learned so much how detailed and well tough a game can be that I learned most of what I need to know. I will still learn but not as much as before.

Also, I got some memories that is engraved into my head. The menu 1 music is the best example. For me, listening to this music reminds me of this whole experience and thus, I think it's unforgettable. I was able to remember the EXACT sounds effects and voice at a young age and still can today. I stopped playing games for years but because those memories was still there, those memories just unfolded at one point and I got back into video games because of this. I can even tell that this game alone changed my life for the good but I did not expect that at all.

For more info, read this post:

http://smashboards.com/threads/and-...u-probably-do-too.338815/page-5#post-16809629

It truly explains the heritage I got by playing ssbm and I still have it today. I owe a lot to Sakurai because of that this man literally changed my life and he deserves credits for that.

For other ssb games, I can't speak for ssb64 even If I played it a little because the main interest of this game is local multiplayer and I don't play with anyone IRL.

But I can tell you that so far, ssb4 is A LOT better than ssbb. I found ssbb pretty weal ESPECIALLY because of the sse. Not only it just feels like a kirby game (and it shouldn't), but it was the cause of the game being somewhat rushed to a point when mewtwo got cut and basically less content. The online is **** (sorry but it has to be said) and the loading time are soooooo high. I can understand classic 35 times but with those loading time, It's so bad and just feels too long for not good reasons. There was also very questionable design choices like the trophy shooter (it just feels boring over time) and tripping (for a single player standpoint, I just question the use of it). Though, I found the roster great and some stages worth a mention. It's definitely not a bad game but it's not the greatest either (I see it as the super paper maro of ssb which isn't bad just could've been better). And yes I was annoyed by how slow the gameplay was.

SSB4 just seems to correct those mistakes but tbh with you, JUST for smash run, this game is awesome. If I enjoy city trial with 3 cpu at level 9, Smash run with 3 cpu at level 9 and featuring lots of Nintendo enemies HAS to be 3 times better. The roster so far looks good and some stages are VERY nice and just looks enjoyable. I also like how Sakurai put the emphasis on the details because if you read my melee thing above, you'll understand that I enjoy details like this (which brawl lacked a little).

That's all I hope you liked it!

I really like just how much content brawl has, and I like how melee and brawl are like a celebration of nintendo, its all really great..
but I appreciate the minimalism of the original. I still play it more often than the other two

I'm a big fan of Lucas's Up Smash personally, but I also really like Game & Watch's Side Smash.

Brawl>Melee>PM>>>>>>>>>>>>>64

For me personally. I like Brawls way of setting up game-play even if it is slower, Melee is fun and offers that faster speed I wish Brawl didn't slow down as much rather than an inbetween, PM is good for me being kind of a middle ground...sort of kind of wish it didn't bring back specific things from Melee but it's still solid to me.

As for 64....I never really got why people hated Brawl but were a-ok 64, it just feels stiff when playing for me with a more limited cast/options/stages. Just didn't feel like it aged well for me so I don't go back to it. Not trying to spur a hate message here but I can't stand playing 64 after playing Melee and Brawl as long as I have.

Melee is my favorite, partially due to the faster gamespeed and no tripping, and partially due to the better memories I have with it. I had a group of friends that would meet every week/every other week to play it in high school for about 2 years. Just as Brawl came out, one of them had to move, so I ended up playing Brawl a lot less with the group.

Why is Smash 4 even in the running? The demos aren't even available yet? As of now, Melee is my favourite, but I'm liking what I'm seeing for Smash 4.

Lol, brawl is the game that brought me into the entire series, so how could i hate it? I think 64 could be above melee, but i have no reliable way of playing it so im not sure. On top of that i cant stand project m. They made it way to technical for my tastes.

Project M was always my favorite. The insane amount of content Brawl had, without stupid crap like tripping!

P:M isn't a smash game, it's a smash mod. Flash smash is more of a smash game then P:M.
I feel that P:M has differentiated itself from Brawl enough to be considered a separate game; it feels more like a successor to Melee than Brawl did. It plays very differently than Brawl did, and is even more popular in tournaments than Brawl.

I have the fondest memories of Melee. I used to play it with my dad, then years later with several of my friends as we anticipated Brawl's release (beginning after E3 2006, so we had a while to wait, lol). To this day I get Butterfrees in my tummy when I hear the opening theme. Some would call it nostalgia, but I feel just as great about it to this day; every memory holds up.

Brawl fell a little short of that magic threshold for me. It was somewhere between the spiritless main theme and peculiar design decisions for the Solo game modes. It was still a fun game to play, though, and I played it until the day I parted with my Wii.

I'm thinking Smash Brothers for Wii U/3DS will become my favorite. I'm not really one to be too attached to Melee's fast pace (never could master it) but not a fan of Brawl's slowness. But out of the three, Melee holds some of the best memories.

1) Smash 64
2) Melee
3)Smash 4
4)I'm stranded on a island and I cant play any smash
5) Brawl
Be warned. Don't post your opinions in an a opinion thread because that's trolling.

It's a categorical error. People who mod games do a tiny fraction of the work people who make the game do. Modifying existing assets is not making a new game, and thus can be on a list of favorite smash mods but not smash games.

Brawl by a long shot, followed by 64 then Melee.

Project M can kick rocks because it is a mod not a smash game.

Project M is my fave Smash game.

Both Brawl and Melee are a very close second, though Brawl comes slightly, ever so slightly, on top because of the fluidity.

1. Brawl / Melee

I can't decide. Melee was a big part of my childhood but I suck at it today and enjoy playing Brawl much more in a 1v1.
Haven't played 64 excessively (I don't own it and couldn't find a cheap copy) and can't play Project M because of PAL.
Well, technically I COULD play it and I'd really like to but.. laziness 'n' stuff. And SSB4 will be out before we even see a glimpse of PAL Project M I'd say, so whatever.

This makes me very sad because it would probably become my favourite SSB to-date if I were able to play it.

I haven't played Project M a lot but just the fact that it brings the best from Melee and Brawl and has such an amazing roster plus more balanced gameplay and giving every character a different playstyle would easily make it my favorite.

I like all Smashes a lot, there is not 1 I don't like.

I gotta go with Brawl. Something about duking it out on a giant granite shlong made matches 5x more hilarious and fun.
Thanks, Stage Builder!
