That pretty much depends on what you're looking for.

Hell, I'd even say that the PS3/Xbox 360 are tied as the two best consoles ever right now. Why? Because bar Nintendo's old titles, you can download almost every game ever on them. Usually in shiny new HD form at that.

imo the PS2 is probably the best console to date because of its game library. some of my favorite games of all time are exclusive to it. not saying that there arent games on other systems i dont enjoy. Smash series, Halo and DK 64 are fantastic games/series. but hell the games like Ape Escape, Jak and Daxter, Dark Cloud, Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, and my personal favorite Castlevania: Curse of Darkness are just my favorite games of any generation thus far.

I found the game to be average rather than bad. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it's by no means a favorite. I would have preferred more room verity and better combat. As for the innocent devils, it was interesting but mons systems in non-mon oriented games just don't click for me. I had the same issue with KH 3D.

Curse of Darkness is still better than that franchise-destroying piece of **** Lords of Shadow.

Also, ironically I actually have a massive Curse of Darkness wall scroll.

well KH 3D is just an awful game. and i agree the areas arent all that diverse but i like the combat. simple but effective.
it is also now occuring to me that Curse of Darkness was on the Xbox so whatever its still a great game on the ps2 imo.
and i want ur wall scroll lol

I didn't think KH 3D was awful, it was just underwhelmingly average just like all of the other KH spin-offs. Especially regarding the fact that, just like all of the other KH spin offs, the game was more about experimenting with gimmicks than it was recreating the KH experience on a handheld.

At least the "plot" of 3D set up for KH3. But honestly, it's been what, seven years since KH2 came out? I was twelve when KH2 came out, and you know you ****ed up big time when your primary demographic for a game has finished middle school, high school, and is in college between the second and third games in your series.

At this point I really don't give a damn about if Square ever releases KH3 or not. I'm honestly done with that series.

/rant over.

Morino is still technically correct, however.

Personally, I prefer console gaming to PC gaming. I genuinely feel more relaxed sitting on a couch with a controller in my hands, a console hooked up to a big TV and snacks sitting on a coffee table in the center of the room.

Call me a console baby or whatever, but it's just how I prefer my games. And yes, I am fully aware of the advantages that PCs have.

You can hook up your PC to a modern TV via HDMI. The original XBOX was essentially a PC, and it was considered a game "console."

With that said, the PC is the best gaming console out there. However, what diffference does it make if you have a really powerful machine when you don't have many games built specifically for the PC instead of half-***** "console" ports.

Game consoles are about the games, not the numbers or potential numbers. Almost everyone's got a decent PC nowadays and people would use them more if local multiplayer wasn't ass on almost every single PC game.

That being said, not including backwards compatibility/emulators, the Gamecube and 3DS have been the best for me so far.

I'm gonna filibusterer here for a moment and say that I kind of feel like consoles have kind of lost what made them special for me. No, Sony, I do not want my PS3 to be the ultimate media hub for my living room. No, I do not want to rent movies on my PlayStation. No, I do not want to edit pictures on it either. No, I do not want my PS3 to be a controller oriented PC. Same goes for Microsoft.

Oh, and console companies need to bring back Local multiplayer. I can honestly say I logged more hours into Mario Party 4 on GameCube or Gauntlet Legends on Dreamcast with three friends in the same room than I ever did Uncharted 2 or Resistance 2's online multiplayer. I don't know, it might just be nostalgia speaking but I just get a better sense of competition and comradery in local than I do online.

I honestly don't have a problem with consoles becoming that one machine you use to meet all of your entertainment needs...It's convenient..but I suppose they have lost their charm as soley being video game consoles. I see what you mean but I don't mind it. Local multiplayer is also important...but the only game I really play with friends are Mario Party and Smash brothers.

The only "entertainment hub" feature I have ever used on my consoles is the built in DVD/Blue Ray player on my PS3.

Admittedly that is actually really useful.

Let's say that you play CoD: Black Ops. That game is available on Steam, and you can hook up your XBOX 360 controller, or heck, even your PS3 controller to your PC. Looks like you're good to go. :)
Actually, I played Bioshock Infinite that way. Only with keyboard + mouse because LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL controllers for FPS.

Well, I suppose to be honest there are a few genres I prefer on PC, primarily FPS and MMORPGs. I guess in the end I just like having to buy one box once every five-six years instead of constantly upgrading a single box.

/shrug

Just for the sake of mentioning it, my favorite consoles of all time are a tie between the GameCube and Dreamcast. I don't consider them the best, just my favorites.

I didn't become a Nintendo fan until the GameCube.

Smash Bros being on the Nintendo 64 means nothing to me.
Part of me wants to destroy you.
The N64 is the home of many historically great games.
It's the second best console in existence just below the NES and this isn't some nostalgia bull**** either.

I have to say the Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox Generation was a very good one.
If you look at all the games in all 3 libraries they all had mint awesome games.
The Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 Generation had like what?
7 decent series?
Mario, Halo, Bioshock, Uncharted, Zelda, as much as I hate to say it CoD, and Metal Gear solid 4.
As in the past generation games even some third party games were at the top of the list to buy.

Destroy me? Seriously? You sound like the early TV dub of DBZ right now.

I suppose I'll elaborate by saying that if you're going to talk about games that are historically great (as in, were big steps forward for the industry and for game design as a whole) then I'll agree that the NES is technically the greatest, but not the Nintendo 64.

I'm sorry, but outside of OoT and Mario 64 I'm hard pressed to think up any games that changed the industry in some way on the Nintendo 64. Goldeneye is a piece of **** and was not made for consoles in the slightest, as it still retained redesign choices for PC shooters, Banjo-Kazooie is Mario 64 with a ear and a bird. Majora's Mask is one of the most overrated games I have ever played with people stupidly assuming that dark = artistic and from a game play standpoint all it had that was even remotely new was the time limit which to this day I am hard pressed to find a game that was inspired by it. On top of all of these overrated titles the Nintendo 64 had virtually no third party support, which actually earned it the reputation of being that console that releases one or two good games form Nintendo a year and then nothing else.

And that's not even getting onto the controller. What in the name of Azathoth possessed Nintendo to make a controller better designed for ****ing octopuses than a goddamn human? Why would you ever make a controller where half of the controller almost never gets used? Why would you make a control stick so ****ing uncomfortable? Why the hell is the controller an uncomfortable-ass trident instead of something a normal person would want to play games with?

At least the Nintendo 64 was the first console with four controller ports built in. IMO that was the best thing Nintendo did with that thing.

EDIT: Actually, I take back what I said about Banjo being Mario 64 with a bear and a bird. It is similar, but is much more collection oriented. That being said, I still don't think it's that good of a game.

Hang on, what historically good games? Mario 64, Paper Mario, DK 64, Star Fox 64, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Conker, Goldeneye, Oot, MM, Smash, and Mario Kart 64? They're great games sure, but aside from a few more exceptions, such as F zero X, and Diddy Kong Racing (yet more first party titles), the rest of the N64's library was terrible, consisting of licensed games and ports for the most part.

NES wasn't much better to be honest with you when it comes to games. It had some obvious classics, but the amount of crap on that system completely outweighs the good titles by a landslide. On the plus side the NES wasn't completely reliant on it's first party titles.

I'd have to say the SNES was leagues better than both of those, and I've never really been a huge fan of the console.

The Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 Generation had like what?

'7' decent series is still more than the two that the N64 had, in Banjo and Zelda.
I'd either rate the PS2 or Mega Drive as my favourite console, but it is glaringly obvious that there have been some fantastic games this gen, spanning all consoles. Heck, I could probably go out on a limb and say that the consoles this gen had some of the highest amount/variety of quality games, in terms of the amount of different series that were good.

This. People give this gen so much **** out of nostalgia bias but when you look at it objectively pretty much every fan of every genre was very catered too. Not to mention that this gen also gave people the chance to play older titles they may have missed via downloads.

IMO people hate on current gen because "OMG THINGS WERE BETTER BACK THEN BECAUSE TEN YEAR OLDS ARE SUCH GOOD JUDGES OF QUALITY" instead of take a look at the sheer amount of high quality titles that came out this gen. Hell, Bioshock 1, Batman: Arhkam Asylum, Yakuza 3, Uncharted, Mass Effect, and more have become some of my favorite games and all of those were current-gen games.

Best console/handheld if you're considering only tech and not library? PS3 or Vita, imo. Favorite console library for me goes to SNES and PS1. My favorite genre is RPGs and those consoles were a gold mine for them. The console that was the most solid all round to me was PS2 though.

Exactly. I know people give this gen a lot of flack, saying all the games are all FPS/third person shooters, dude-bro, brown and grey colour palette games, which it wasn't, but even if it was this was exactly what the older consoles (especially Nintendo's) were like with platformers/games targeted at a younger audience.

Indeed. Saying that current gen consists of nothing but CoD clones while conveniently ignoring games like BlazBlue, Sonic Generations or Sly 4.

It's like saying that the Gen/SNES generation consisted of nothing but Sonic clones while ignoring games like Golden Axe, Chrono Trigger and Street Fighter II.

I wouldn't call the Stadium games or Snap over looked. They're good, but nothing revolutionary IMO. Well, I can't speak for Snap since I've never actually played it but from what I gather it's a rail shooter you user a controller for. Which fills my soul with sadness.

As for your sports games listed assuming we lived in the 90s still I could get all of them on the PS1 for about $20 cheaper.

One major advantage that the PS1 had over the N64 was that new games for the PS1 were around the $40 range while new games for the N64 were around the $60 range.

Factor inflation into that and you now realize that N64 games technically hovered around $80 brand new.

all those sports games had a lot better counterparts on the ps1. and idk a single person who would say those Pokemon games r overlooked. and like finalark said, they arent really that revolutionary. just well made games. Pokemon Stadium is just Pokemon with 3d models but no real story. the mini games were pretty good tho.
