What if your Character is Drastically Changed?

This thinking is essentially from the same stem of thinking about experience from old Mario games and new Mario Games. So what if you can side scroll, now you have to play golf and ****, too. It's an entirely different level of gameplay you're not comfortable with.

So, what if Marth's not in Brawl. What if Falcon's knee sucks? I can't shake the insufferable feeling that the reason I play a certain character now will be taking out of changed in Brawl, to the point where I simply don't want to play as them. There's always the option of playing Melee far beyond the release of Brawl, but the fanbase won't be nearly as big, and it's not like you'd get the sort of respect you'd get if you mastered a character in Brawl.

What's the purpose of getting settled with a character now if it's going to be a whole new ball game in Brawl?

Things change. It's all about game balance. Fox and Sheik are good examples of this. Another example is the transition from SSB64 to Melee, when Kirby was nerfed to a degree where some people feel he became somewhat useless.

Things are always going to change, and I for one hope the trend continues that way. I want game balance, like back in the days of SSB64. If something changes about the characters I love, I'll either adapt or find another character I like. Either way, I'll deal.

Well mainly because this isn't Melee 2.0 and Brawl itself is a whole new ball game itself. If you played a character for his moves and then they sucked, move on and find the next top tier ***** to play around with (like everyone else). If you played a character because you like that character than surely their moveset wouldn't matter? There's still people that play Kirby because they like Kirby.

Melee > SSB64 version 2.0
Brawl > SSBM version 2.0

Simple.

if you played the old ssb , you'd know how this is working . Ness,Pika and Kirby are top tier in ssb but they have been nerfed down badly, I main Pika in ssb , but i cant be just as good with in melee so i left him for falcon. u cant just stick to your characters all over smash bros series just becuz melee isnt ssb 2.0 or brawl wont be melee 2 or ssb 3 , characters have to be different otherwise it would be just an enhanced version of the game
if falcon moves suck in brawl ill just stick with another char i feel better with

Depends what level you want to play at and how much practice you're willing to put in. There's quite a few really good Pikachu players, and he's not totally useless despite being heavily nerfed for Melee. I think Taj proves to non-believers everywhere that you really can use bottom tier characters effectively. Most people aren't willing to put the practice in though and actually go through the process of learning to play a more difficult character to be good with and that's why most people cop out to the top tier.

If everyone stuck to their favourite character, inspite of how they compare to other characters, there'd certainly be a lot more decent low-tier players and a much bigger variation in characters online. Won't happen though.

Ganondorf will be likely changed, methinks.
But then again, Link and Zelda appear very much the same as there
Melee incarnation. But I assume many of the clones will get a new moveset, which could really hurt some of them...

I hope Zelda changes a bit, I would switch between her and her other form to make up for some things. (I loved lauching back projectiles and the magic with Zelda) But if its going to be Zelda alone I hope her to be just a wee bit faster in some areas.

Silently stalking Samus....
hope samus dosnt change at all (zero suit samus part is good as it is only activated after samuses final smash is activated)
ive realised that on the dojo it says final smashes can only be used once i now know it means for in the battle the fact that they wouldnt make zero suit samsus appear only once in the game so they must be able to use final smashes more than once

I play the characters that I like.

Smash: Kirby and Luigi (in that order.)
Melee: Luigi, Kirby, Samus, Ness, and Bowser (in that order.)
Brawl: Luigi, Kirby, Bowser, Midna, Sonic, Pit, Krystal, and Diddy (not nessicarily in that order.)

I play characters based on two things:
1) I like the character (NOT the moveset.) This always takes priority. I learn how to play all the characters that I like first.
2) I like the moveset. After I've learned how to play the characters I like, then I focus on the characters that have movesets I like. I just recently (last week) started playing as Samus and Ness because I've always liked the floating character movesets the best (except the Puff!!!!) Mewtwo is next on my list.

I've mained as Mario in both games and plan to continue maining him. I'm gonna give Snake a shot though, and I do like playing as Pikachu.

Right behind you with a knife.
What I don't get is how some people are claiming that they are going to main Sonic or Ridley (If in), and then get upset at the notion that one of their old mains may change. That always seems weird to me. >_>

Anyways, if they change for the worse, I may just have to get over any sentimental value, and then pick up and use the character I'm best with.

From what I've seen Link hasn't seemed like he's changed much, he was my main in ssb and ssbm. I know that Sakurai has changed some characters through the site, like Bowser has changed. I think it's all for the best though, Sakurai will look back at the success of Melee, and see what characters had made it so popular and fix all the ones that were frowned upon and are returning.

@Pieman Though I always used Link, I might even main Sonic(if in), not for the fear of Link changing, but just cause I want brawl to feel like a completely new game. People shouldn't fear that stuff though.

Playing video games is all about evolution. The fact is, if you're willing to play a new game on a new console of an older series, you're going to have to change just a little.

If it really drags you down that much, just try someone new. Heck, if it's too easy, try someone new. A new SSB game means having another opportunity to evolve. (Oh, god! Poke'mon! AGGH!!!)

I remember when Yoshi used to be considered hot. XD

Of course, I'm still going to use my four mains (providing they all show up). But I'm going to try some of the newbies as well. Pit looks like a lot of fun to me. . .

If a character is changed, well, their changed... :p

I might move onto Mario as my main since Doc was one of my Melee mains and I see little hope of him returning. I admit to getting caught up in how well a character's move set is in deciding who I play as, but not always. I'm sure I'll be sticking with Luigi because I'm pretty certain he's coming back.

I just know there's gonna be a lot of complains about "why isn't this character exactly like how he/she was in Melee?!" So many people will be expecting an upgraded Melee rather then a new game. As for the translation from the original Smash to Melee, Fox seems to have been pretty powerful in the first game and he didn't quite get a nerf treatment in Melee, or at least not enough to hold him back. I do expect the character balance issue to be worked out a bit better, but I can never see it being perfect. Based on my limited SSB64 knowledge, I think that game is more unbalanced then Melee.

Peach (my main) will probably get nerfed, but I'll still play as her. My second best character, Kirby, will most likely get better, so I'm not totally screwed.

Seeing how Link went from worst character in ssb64 to pretty good in melee (when used correctly). I'm not worried abit. From his smash dojo profile, he seems like he will be much like the melee Link. In the trailers, he seems the same speed as in melee, while alot of the faster chars seemed slower like Fox. Link for Top Tier!!!! Can I have it? :)

You meant like Captain Falcon from 64 to Melee? I dunno, people seemed to like him in Melee...
64 Falcon and Melee Falcon are ridiculously similar. The only moves that changed were his F-air and N-air (64's F-air become Melee's N-air) and his smashes. Sure, Falcon Punch got slowed down and Falcon Dive wasn't an amazing finisher, but he plays similarly in both games.

I'm not worried about him.

SSB64: Kirby, Mario
SSBM: Yoshi, Mario, Ice Climbers, Kirby
SSBB: Kirby, ????

Kirby is my all time favorite Nintendo character, so I plan on sticking with him. Depending on how good a character is and how much fun they are to use with determine if I'll choose them.

Yoshi wasn't on my list for 64 but he made it in Melee. I can't predict anything 100% yet, so I'll just have to wait and see.
