Seriously, I find it a little difficult to think of 3rd party characters returning. They seem more like cameo appearances in a movie, and not supporting actors, so I can't really picture them coming back for the 4th installment of Smash.

That would be so great if they did though, just think of the ridiculously huge roster ..

It's obviously way too early to be thinking about this, but yeah, the 3rd party characters are most likely "guest appearances."

Well, like Link and the other exclusive characters in Soul Calibur 2... they're just guests.

I agree that third party characters are just "guests" . I couldn't really see them being on the full-time roster.

Like others have said, it's way too early to make such questions until the next Smash game is announced. For now, it's easier to just focus on Brawl since it's coming this year.

Snake might return in the next smash bros...I thought Hideo Kojima and Masahiro Sakurai didnt do a business thing at all....This was all based on friendship BUT since Sakurai said this is HIS last smash bros which is sad =(.....then maybe Snake wont return....see what im sayin?....

Ugh, when they see how popular third parties are they will keep them (Sonic).
Agreed. Very popular characters, like Sonic, would most likely stay or else the game might not sell as well.

Either way, thats a looong way from now- atleast another 4-8 years.

wow, Brawl hasn't even been released yet and this guy is already thinking about the 4thSmash, but if any 3rd party were to return it would definetly be Sonic

Hahah yeah, I was thinking a little far ahead, but it all spawned from the thought of if Snake had been in the last Smash.

Also, I'm surprised no one got the Simpson's reference.

Sakurai didn't make the first one.
Hal Lab did I know, but my reference was mainly to point out how other games are normally ****ed up when given direction to other unfamiliar companies. I didn't think that they could bring Hal back into the scene so I guess you have me there.

Hmmm.....good question bro.

Well if they come out to a sequel to Brawl, if the fan demand on Snake making a comeback to the roster is colossal, then perhaps he could make a trimphant return, even if he is only a special guest.

Snake is far too awesome to be excluded.

All characters in 64 returned to Melee, and with the exception of clones, I'm hoping the same will happen with Brawl, and so forth...Snake is most assuredly not a clone.

As far as guest appearances go..why have a character in for only one game? Thats just stupid if it's a running franchise.

i'm feeling they'll always keep it to a minimum.

Here's it's going to be 3 or 4. Next time it could be 4 to 6.

Just keep it low and just don't go higher then 10.

I really can't see them dumping Snake. However I can see them bringing in Simon Belmont for a future candidate.

So maybe every third party team could get like two characters this time.

So say Sega and Capcom helped us out in Brawl with Sonic and Megaman.

Then in future we could see something from these two again to add on such as: Tails and Ryu(Street fighter) maybe?

Now onto the other part of thew topic.

I have a feeling this wont be the last Smash Bros.

Smash Bros. has come a long way since it's first chance idea for the N64 era. It has evolved into a thriving fanbase. Unlike many other franchises also you only need one per generation. And I feel Brawl will be the only one for Wii. There will be another I feel. It is a growing franchise and a very popular franchise too.

Both games ended up winning best multiplayer to my knowledge. I believe Melee actually got a player's choice and was the second highest selling Gamecube game.

Plus it's no secret that Brawl is one of the biggest, most anticipated games ever. The updates everywhere get an amazing amount of posts and hype lifted not just in this forum but in any other website realting to NIntendo there is a forum for Smash Bros, and the page size is huge. The topics are huge. The characters they request, huge numbers.

Some are really dodgy suggestion but it's unbelivable how far people will go to say this character should be in the brawl.

You don't get this kind of stuff from a flavour of the month you get it from a fully fledged and fresh franchise. That in just 2 more years it would of survived it's first decade.

This franchise is going to go on, it's a fun concept and it actually works quite well.
As long as we can keep it till one game a generation it wont bite the dust hopefully or get stale. And i'm sure someone will pick it up after Sakurai is gone. Miyamto has said he'll be making game until he dies. I wouldn't mindseeing this in the hands of one of our greatest gamemakers ever.

Kojima personally wanted Snake to be in melee, and now he's in brawl, so it is possible he'll stick around. But for other characters, it would be up to the respective companies.
