What does lack of wavedash mean for Pika?

So because there's no wavedashing in brawl, will this hurt pika as he relied on it for increased range? Or will it help that other (maybe higher tier?) charaters relied on it more for their game than Pika did?

Actually I should have made the title include the physics of Brawl in general. For instance, in an article Gimpy linked it said the game tends to focus more on aerials than previous smash iterations. It sounds like this is something that will work to the advantage of pikachu.

What are you talking about first of all, I think your under the assumption that this is Melee 2.0, Brawl is an entirely new game.

thank goodness Brawl is not Melee 2.0
On the same note, Gimpy said Pikach was better than he was in Melee. that is all. life is good.

it means nothing this game is not melee without wavedashing it plays almost nothing like it
It will obviously help or hurt some characters more or less. I know there's a lot of changes but I was talking about one in particular.

This isn't an assumption, it's logic. Either the game will be exactly the same, or there will be changes and it will help some characters and hurt others. It's already been said that this isnt the same game, so the only question left is whether it will help or hurt.

Of course it's a different game, and it will most likely hurt everyone's gameplay. It's just a new challenge for everyone to overcome. It'll be like going from SSB64 to Melee when that change came.

no no its an assumption

its a whole new physics engine, if every character acted the same as they did in melee this would obviously have inherant advantages/disadvantages, but the characters do not transfer over remotely the same way that would be required to answer such a bizare question

the lack of wavedashing doesn't affect pikachu anymore than it affects samus or any less than it affects bowser

its a new game with new physics

That doesnt make sense. If wavedashing helped certain characters more than others in melee, then even if there were other major changes a lack of wavedashing would help certain characters more than others as well.

experience and smarts are going to play the main role in brawl. they did play a role in melee but you could overcome a little bit of this by having mad technical skill. this wont happen anymore. this could be a good thing or a bad thing we'll just have to see how it works out.

also, just having online play was going to increase the amount of good players anyway, so the space between pros and n00bs already decreased before we found out about all the techs not being there.

Not everyone plays Smash to be a tourney expert, that's so general and stupid.
Doesn't matter. If you look at how well a non competitive player plays compared to a pro, and im not talking how fast you can shffl or how many wavedashes you can do or how many shdls you can do in reverse while popping finger steroids.

Im talking about playing SMART, like mew2king. it comes with time and experience, so a newbie in smash will always be a newbie until he practices enough and learns the game better and how to be more strategic.

This applies to like... every game in the universe where winning and losing is determined by the actions of two opposing players.

Maybe not everyone plays to be the best, but I sure do see a lot of people pre-crying about brawl and arrogantly stating that due to a lack of techniques from the previous games, they will now rise above the ranks as the best players.

It just plain isnt true, and from the sound of it, pikachus buffs in brawl outweigh the need for his rather average wavedash from melee.

I agree with you, but I also have to agree with the other post, online play will bring more good players, why?

As you yourself said, noone will be good until they practice and play smart, as it is also true, there are lost of people who play just to see other people play basically (those who dont want to get better) and others who are really stubborn and will always suck, but there are those who once they get wtfpwned in Brawl online they will start training harder, go online and get pwned again theyll start to make strategies, learn to play smart and train some more. And this is going to be the majority of people (IMO), maybe they won't reach the level some pro players have, but at least IMHO they will be decent enough to play and have fun against and to actually pose some kind of challenge.

The techs are gone?

... AT LAST!

This pleases me? Top tiers just got nerf'd. Low tiers just got buff'd. Way to level the playing field, development people! *thumbs up*

I never cared one iota about wavedashing in the first place. It seems incredibly useless to me.

The Official Pikachu Video Guide
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=204344

Welcome to Volt Tackle Videos, the archive + critique thread for all videos related to Brawl Pikachu!

If you would like your Pikachu critiqued, please make that clear when you post your video(s). Offline matches are preferred. Replays of matches vs. CPUs will not be accepted for the archive, and most people won't review them either. Keep an open mind when reading people's opinions about your playstyle.... remember that it's constructive criticism. Nobody's trying to be mean!

If you're posting video(s) for the archive, please include some basic info in your post: names of the players, characters used, and whether it's tournament, wifi, etc. If you're posting a set, number the matches accordingly. This makes it much easier for the OP to be updated accurately.

Got replays but no recording device?
ElNoNombreHombre has a thread dedicated to recording replays for fellow Pikachu players:
