Well, not many people really think about this, but what should the new announcer for wiiu / 3ds sound like. I have become fascinated with the soothing voice of all the different announcers of the series. So what do you think, should it be male or female, should they have the same one for both games, or should there even be an announcer in the game, what do you think?

Honestly, if the matches aren't playful pre/during/post match banter and commentary between Doc Louis and Palutena, I'm gonna be really disappointed.

Female this time pleeeeeeeeeeease. Melee's was great. Brawl's guy was more charismatic, but sounded..... chokey?

I've been curious for a long time.

Morgan Freeman should sign a deal with Nintendo, they should pay him a boatload of money, and he should voice SSB4.

Just kidding, but can you imagine him saying, "Lucario". I personally think it would be funny to have the announcer voice be customizable, so you could have it be a really high-pitched "Bowser", or a crazy low "KIRBY". Either that, or a male announcer for some, and a female announcer for others, that would mix it up.

Not being sexist, but a female Smash announcer would be, unfitting.
I'm pretty sure Smash Flash 1 proved that,

I agree, I think a male voice is fine. Males usually have louder/powerful voices, so they fit the announcer role better.

I think the option to change announcers would be pretty cool. There could be like 3 generic announcers and then there could be unlockable announcers that would be characters from various nintendo games such as Viridi or Doc Louis

One of those Tomodachi Life text-to-speech voices would be cute.

A woman's voice would also be a neat change of pace, and would fit with this WFT/Rosalina/maybePalutena estrogen shot the roster is getting. However, I doubt they'd do it since the announcer is usually implied to be Master Hand, who is a male... hand. (Edit: Unless we get a Mistress Hand?)

If the announcer is going to be traditional, I'd like more of a fight night MC shouting into a microphone like the first two games.

Would you like state why it would be unfitting? I'm pretty sure a male could screw up a fan-made flash game, too.

I think a female voice actor could work. Granted the one in SF1 may have left much be desired but that's not to say a female can't have a powerful respectable voice in a game like this. I think it could work, however I will say that Melee's announcer was pitch perfect. I'm all for Sm4sh trying some new things but I think at the very least melee's VA should work as some sort of inspiration.

I do like the idea of having banter between two announcers, given that it can be turned off if someone doesn't like it. To make it feel less repetitive, they could have a number of possible announcers, and have two be picked at random per match. I think something like this would be funny.
[Generic Annnouncer]: "And ____ gets the final KO, getting the win. What was your opinion on that, crazy hand?"
Crazy Hand:"WHERE ARE MY TURNIPS"

My idea of the voice is more of a serious tone, or maybe kind of monotonous. Like a robot, but not lifeless. The best example that comes to mind is the voiceover in the game Blue Dragon when you search, pick up items or gold, just not on a scale that simple or boring. I think it maybe fits the theme.

All-in-all, I couldn't care less if it was male or female. As long as it's good.

I think the natural lower tone of a male voice works better but I could see a British female voice working pretty well.

The two guys from Wipeout.

If that show's still even on. I used to find them so ****ing hilarious.

But honestly I don't really care too much. I didn't pay enough attention to even notice a difference between the games.

A female voice is more fitting for something like Playstation All-Stars, in my opinion.

I don't know if I could get behind a monotonous announcer. I like the jazzy personality the previous voice announcers put in best. It added in sense of oomph into the game. Can you think of any better examples to emphasize your point? The voiceover for Blue Dragon was really bad and out of place.

Something in the sound of this @ 5:56 in the video. but with way more life, heart and charisma like Brawl's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuxS9_Nifrk

All the voices in the video are pretty lame, though. DoA is lame in general.

I really can't think of a better example off-hand. I wouldn't mind Mads Mikkelsen to do a male voice, though.

They should get Jeff Manning again. (The N64 announcer)

His voice was just perfect for the series in regards to atmosphere. While I liked Dean Harrington (Melee's announcer) more than Pat Cashman (Brawl's narrator), I think Dean slightly lacked some of the charm that Jeff brought.

You know what would be truly awesome, though? If they got both Jeff AND Dean to do narration, and allowed you to choose your announcer like Dead or Alive or Killer Instinct (2013)

It would be hype.

I'm really hopin for Doc Louis, I honestly believe that I could never get sick of his voice. But better add the generic echoey strong male announcer just to be safe.

I want customizable announcers.

Palutena
Doc Louis
Generic Announcer
Sakurai
OKAY THIS GAVE ME AN IDEA

What if we started out with a generic male and female announcer that we could switch between in the options (or have them speak together, like finish each other's sentences and flirt with each other). But, as we complete classic mode on hard or whatever, we unlock voice packs for each character to be the announcer!

That way when Mario says his own name, he says "itsa me!". Pikachu's would be hilarious :3. Mute characters like Link, Kirby, Olimar and Bowser may be problematic.

I want the hype of the Pokemon Stadium announcer or more. And the option to raise the level of hype to "Wombo Combo".

Kirby can slightly say them. [MAWYOO]
Olimar in text box at the bottom in style of Pikmin text box.
Bowser can talk kinda...no...pass...
Link is where you just magically understand exctly what he's saying even when he isn't saying anything at all.
