Eh, this might not mean much coming from me, because it's been a long while since I placed under top 5, but I wholeheartedly agree that scrub is in the mentality and ATTITUDE.

A) Don't pretend to know what you're talking about, if you don't, just for the sake of looking smart. The people who DO know what you're trying to talk about will realize that you don't know what you're talking about, and deem you a scrub.

B) Keep an open mind, and try not to get overtly frustrated. I mean, I have a psychological advantage in tournaments. Once upon a time, I used to think that I'd be lucky to get past round 2. Back then, I never really got past round 2. I kept my head high, practiced a lot, GOT in mad friendlies, and basically studied my *** off over the summer, to learn. Plus, I'm told I'm fun to be around. This helped me get more knowledgeable, which essentially, mad me better.

C) Understand that not everyone can be the best, but you should have a solid objective in mind. In my state, the top 4 players are M2k, Spam, Atomsk, and Inui. I'm currently considered 8th. As a smart person, I realize that I'm not going to instantly get to be as good as M2k and take over that number 1 spot. I ALSO should realize that it doesn't mean I can't lose to anyone ranked below me, because it does happen. Setting realistic goals and standards for yourself makes you not a scrub. This season, I'm trying to be ranked top 6, and continue to not place below 5th. It would be scrubbish of me to think I could all of a sudden become better than M2k. Even when I placed 13th on average, I wasn't a scrub. I set my goal to beat certain players, and I did. Then I started to place top 9th, and now, I place top 5.

Basically, you need to stay open minded, play to learn, and remember that even Ash Ketchum loses a lot. Be diligent, play smart, and be realistic, and you won't be a scrub.

I skipped like every reply just fyi.

Based on your initial question, it seems like you're asking more about how good you are based on tourney placement, which is what I'll explain. It doesn't really matter. The quality of the tournament is more important. I have played in 3 tourneys (****ty location + unwillingness to drive over 2 hours :/) and got first in 2 of them. Hah. Does not mean jack ****. Those two tourneys were of a much lower level than the 3rd one, which I did rather poor in. So I consider myself a subpar level.

While I know I'm a subpar player, I'm not a scrub because I care about improving and actually do go to tourneys. So you're not a scrub at all, if that's what you were actually asking. :D

ALSO: Numbers in a tourney also doesn't say much. There were over 40 people in my second tourney but it was still a meh quality tourney because there were only like 3 good players. (good relative to the competition, not to the smash community as a whole XD)

If you go to tournaments regularly enough, then you're not a scrub. Doesn't matter where you place, as long as your mindset towards Brawl is one that leads you to practice and try to get better.
Couldn't of said it any better myself. When you go to these tournie meets, go with an open mind and ask a ton of questions. Whether its about smash or not. People love talking about themselves and smash alot. You can learn alot from an experianced player just by talking with them. I just helped out a buddy of mine since he went to his first tournie this past weekend. Didnt do well since he was so new to smash, so i helped him out by helping him pick up G&W and also talking about G&W perks and cons. Then if he needs additional help he can check the G&W section here for more tips and advice.

Like, I think I'm a scrub, not many people in my area really know who I am? What do I have to place to not be a scrub? Best I've ever placed is 13th, isn't that good :(

Do I actually have to make money (aka place 3rd) before peepz start caring about me, or is it cause I joined in the Brawl scene instead of Melee :(
Yeah it doesn't really matter where you place, I don't place well normally, I just try to get out there, play good people, get myself known, etc.
