So often, we focus either on gameplay or on characters cause, well, those are generally see as the most important aspect of a fighting game - especially a crossover such as Smash. However, compared to many cross-over games such as Marvel vs Capcom, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, or what not - the Smash series has an insanely large amount of content that ranges from stages, items, assist trophies, music, trophies and stickers, artwork, and much more. I believe, in regards to smash, content is a large portion of Smash and franchise representation is fairly important. Therefore, I would like to open up a discussion to focus less on the characters but on other content from franchises - veteran and newcomer, huge and small.

First off, with two new franchises having been revealed: Megaman and Wii Fit, how will they be represented by the aforementioned list (trophies and stickers, music, AT)?

In addition, with the reveal of Villager, how will the Animal Crossing franchise benefit? What new content, possibly reflecting New Leaf, will be incorporated?

Lastly how will veteran series, such as Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Pokémon, Star Fox, and Kirby benefit from new content? Based on recent or future games, what content do you think will be included?

I'd like to keep it at confirmed franchises for right now to avoid getting off track.

I'm definitely interested in this. I'm not sure Wii Fit will get an AT but whether the balance-board will get in as an item is debatable. It appears as the platforms in the Wii Fit stage so I don't know.

Mega Man has a wealth of things to grab from. Proto Man, Beat, Roll, Dr Wily... all great potential ATs and there's no real shortage of item ideas either, really; more-so if they're choosing from the entire franchise rather than just Mega Man classic. As for music... well, I don't think I need to say much about that. There's far too much.

I'm kind of hoping for a new Animal Crossing item that's the leaf that represents items in the actual game; something you throw that has a random effect or can spawn something random.

With no offense meant towards WFT, I don't think anyone really cares about the Wii Fit franchise.

Megaman, however, has a vast wealth of content to draw from, with Megaman 1-10 as well as all of the X games, and more. I'm excited to hear a lot of the Megaman tracks, especially since we have at least one stage confirmed. We've got the MM2 theme remix, of course, but I'd love to hear some other tracks as well.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of my personal favorites:

Bubble Man theme (MM2) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bsz0UIRs-J4

Ruined Street (MM7) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htqSQnTgfMg

Tornado Man theme (MM9) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpO2ar64UGE

Nitro Man theme (MM10) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doxUxFsXCJs

And, something completely different: The voiced theme from the Saturn MM8, Electrical Communication:

I tried really, really hard not to post five links all from MM2 and maybe a few from MM9. IMO the best games in the series for music, at least. Another theme that might work is the Ghosts 'n' Goblins theme, accessed by holding L and R while entering the game, as a callback to the alternate theme from Shade man in MM7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d_BqKWe-9w

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for AC, not really my specialty. I actually have never played an AC game, I've heard a lot of great music though, like this from the Animal Crossing movie:

I think that would make a fantastic theme for Smashville/whatever the AC stage is.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the veteran franchises, I think the most notable one is Donkey Kong due to the legendary David Wise coming back to compose for Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. There was of course the unforgettable Stickerbrush Symphony in Brawl, but there are some other great tracks I'd like to see make a return as well. Here are a few:

Aquatic Ambiance (DKC1) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAPpVplHiDE

Snakey Chantey (DKC2) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEbqOi2OHEg

Run, Rambi, Run (DKC2) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMAWnr5jMx0

Stilt Village (DKC3 GBA) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=cevlCkU8wJU#t=19s (music starts 20 seconds in)

Crocodile Cacophony (DKC2) - One of my favorite tracks from the game, the boss battle theme. This remixed could work especially well if K.Rool made a return as a boss.

As for things other than music, I don't really care. Maybe an assist trophy from Protoman would be cool, or an assist from Funky in a helicopter. My main concern besides gameplay and characters is music. Sorry if I posted a bit much.

Megaman has a lot of content to add. I can't even begin to think of an AT since there are so many. If I had to choose though, I'd say Roll, Protoman, or Zero all have a fairly good chance. Dr. Wily needs to make an appearance. I'm looking forward to the trophies. Roll, Dr. Light, Protoman, Bass, Treble, Rush, Beat, Dr. Wily, and the Robot Masters would all be awesome to see HD.

I am not sure about Wii Fit. The stage looks interesting and the music sounds fun. I know the tether ball she has may be used as an item (based on gameplay videos). Maybe a lot of sports themed content?

As for AC, I do see a lot of New Leaf content. Maybe it's just me but I want to see Isabelle as an AT. She could follow around the player, dealing extra damage and, randomly, trip into the opponents thus causing high amounts if damage.

One thing for sure. The new franchises will bring more representation and atmosphere to the series. Mega Man is a mega impact and has more to work with from his series then The Villager and Wii Fit Trainer's series.

There's a bunch of stuff Nintendo could pull from. Nintendo now owns Fatal Frame and honestly after wii fit trainer I feel like anything is possible. Here are some other Nintendo franchises that don't have stage or character representation in a previous smash game(assist trophies not counted here).

Characters and Stages
Punch Out
Fatal Frame
Brain Age
Custom Robo
Golden Sun
Pilot Wings
Rhythm Heaven
Xenoblade and X
Captain Rainbow
Eternal Darkness
The Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Pro Wrestling
Pushmo
Devil World
Kung Fu
Urban Champion
Takamaru's Castle (don't know if it's actually called that)
Famicom Wars and Advanced Wars
Star Tropics
Battle Clash (Nobody ever talks about this one)
Famicom Detective
Shin Onigashima
Blast Corps
Sin and Punishment
Doshin the Giant
Baten Kaitos (It was published by nintendo, don't know if they own it)
Another R

A Couple of Franchises that could have Neat stages.
Endless Ocean
Mario Party Stage
Dr.Mario
Excite Series
Steel Diver
Golf
Duck Hunt
Wave Race
1080 Snowboarding
SimCity (They had the guy so maybe a stage)
Wii Sports Island (forgot what the place was called)

I had way too much fun thinking up this list. This is just the stuff I thought of and If you dig I am sure you could find more.

I would expect Roll, Protoman, Bass, or Wily himself as a Mega Man assist trophy. All of them will likely be trophies.

Wii Fit probably won't get an assist trophy, but if so it'd pretty much have to be the male Wii Fit Trainer, right?

Well some of the things i was hoping it would bring were.

#1 Alt.Costumes

#2 Major overhaul Of every chars moveset to give em more fitting and canon like movesets.

#3 More moves

So far it doesnt bring any of those 3....I guess its not gonna bring much in terms of evolution....but who knows...Sakurai is extremely tight lipped about everything.

There is no basis to say this yet. Cool your jets, dude. We've only seen a couple Final Smashes and the game is still pretty early in its development cycle.

I've always been interested in how developers can dynamically alter a characters movesets in ways that hark to their respective franchises.

I've always wondered how Mario's playstyle would change if they included the glide motion to his cape. Then I heard an idea of giving his spin move the same properties as he does when he his has cape in SMW and my mind was blown.

Things like allowing Donkey Kong to roll on a barrel as a nod to Country (perhaps giving him another aerial special?)

I imagine that this conversation has more to do with concepts like these

In which case, I would love to see an item expansion to include things like some of the Donkey Kong buddies

Things are different now, however. We have games where the only thing we're aware about is their development. The legend of zelda has a new game that draws heavily from an older title, but that's as far as our frame of reference goes. I'd like to say that familiarity brings relevance in that there will be a greater emphasis on items found in A Link to the Past, however I'd also like to know if new content can be just as intriguing.

Mario Galaxy was released well before brawl, but there was a strict emphasis on the elements found in Sunshine. There's a goldmine of resources to be utilized from Galaxy, but the realism behind the matter is that these games are in development rather close to one another so it takes even more effort to focus on products that different teams are working on. The same situation applies now with these newer games.

Music is a big one. I want to hear Punch-Out and Golden Sun's music orchestrated.
