Welcome to the "Smashboards Creates" Sub-Forum
"Smashboards Creates" or "Game-Creation Threads" is an ongoing trend of threads being made with the purpose of creating a game from scratch based on various ideas and principals. Since last year when Super Smash Bros. Infinite was created, numerous threads have come and go. In an attempt to house these threads in an organized space, we will be moving and relocating them into this sub-forum! This way, we can free up space with those areas where they once were while also allowing us to create our own little area of the site! Being a section for creation threads, there are numerous rules to observe in regards to how the threads should be run. These rules are an extension of our Terms of Service and can be considered as "special rules".

Sub-Forum Rules
- Be respectful of user submissions. A user is able to submit content as long as it pertains to the rules of the current Job but, regardless, mocking/attacking/flaming/trolling a user's submission would be grounds for a Trolling and/or Flaming warning.
- Be respectful to the thread owners schedule. They are running a Creation Thread. It’s hard work. Constantly posting in it and trying to bump the thread is not in the threads best interest. If enough time has passed, a user can do a bump to get the thread back up. Constantly asking when the thread will have new content is grounds for a Spam warning.
- Honor the submissions. Unless someone submitted content that flies entirely in the face of what you intended, please try to honor the submission and include it. If you can't please provide clear and concise reasoning as to why not. Additionally, while you may contest a thread owners reason to veto a submission, please respect their wishes if enough proof was shown that this was in fact a bad submission.
- If a thread owner wishes to stop the thread, they can request a thread closure. The thread will then be locked. The project will then be retired unless taken up and adopted by someone else.
- Discussion should be focused on the thread and not on Discord. People may post the Discord Server for that Creation thread in the opening post but proper discussion that pertains to this project should occur on site as much as possible.
- Double Posting. Thread runners may double post up to three times for the following: results, job announcement, and a follow up submission. After this, the thread runner must way until someone else posts or enough time has passed (roughly a day) between the two posts. This is done in order to to allow the three to be easily quoted and identifiable. Making more than three consecutive posts may result in a warning based on the severity.
- When you make a new thread, please let the section moderator know so they can add it to the database. Please be respectful to the moderator as it may take some time to put it up in the database.
- A thread may be closed should enough time pass between updates. This rule enforcement will be slow at first as threads that have been long dead yet moved to this section will be locked manually but it will be enforced more gradually as time passes. You can request an unlock but only as long as you can prove you intend to keep the thread going.
- No plagiarism. Submissions that our rights copy content from an outside source or another post will be deemed ineligible. That being said, you can reference outside content or a Smashboard’s post as reference/inspiration but it shouldn’t constitute the majority of your post. Please note that if you wish to submit someone’s previous submission on their behave, you must get permission from them to do so. In addition, if you pull content from another site as a reference, sources and acknowledgement should be given.
Guidelines for Creating a Creation Thread
While an idea may seem good on paper, it may not take off as desired. Below is a set of guidelines that can help you in planning and launching a creation thread...
- Does the concept allow for creativity and originality? Some ideas seem prime for original ideas while others are restrictive. The more freedom users have to submit content, the more active thread may be. When thinking of a concept, please consider what sort of content people can submit.
- Have you allowed enough time to manage the thread? Creation threads are a long endeavor to see it go from start to finish. This is one of the main causes of a thread puttering out because people lose steam.
- Consider your target audience. Obviously Smash, Nintendo, and Gaming related ideas will garner more attention so don't be surprised if a Paw Patrol Racing thread isn't as active as you might wish it to be.
- Time time to evaluate your schedule. Creating a frame work and sticking to it via a timeline helps you plan jobs and craft the game accordingly. This allows you to have a fixed timeline to abide by while also allowing you to have a bit more flexibility.
- Appreciate the help. This isn't just a project made by you, this is a community endeavor so make sure you allocate time to thank those participating. This also includes including content as a freebie to thank those who helped out.
- Consult others. It's a good idea to not only ask the thread the direction they want to see the project move towards but also to help with the general day to day. Having a co-helper in managing the thread could help ease the work on you.
- Stick with your thread. Instead of moving to a new idea if your current one doesn't work, perhaps try to figure out ways to bring in new users or come up with other incentives. Creating Youtube playlists, a wikia, or a Discord group could help bring in more attention. Profile Posts also work out well to bring in new users.
- Be welcoming to new users. Piggybacking from that, it's best to put on a smile and be welcoming to users. This is especially true to those who don't know how the Smashboard's Creates threads work. Have a copy-and-paste on hand to post should someone post like "I want to see Scorpion in Mario Kart 9".
- Have Fun. Running these threads is just as much fun as participating in them and the sheer number of threads is a testament to this. Have fun with it!
