While I was watching E3's day 3 stream I noticed that they made Link hold his charged forward smash. He stopped moving until the person let go of the controller. Am I the only one to notice this? This could be really useful for reads or mix ups. I have a shortened video of it here: https://youtu.be/pasqhFbXmd8

I've noticed this too, though I'm not sure if you actually can hold it indefinitely or just for a longer time.

If you can charge smash attacks for a longer period, then maybe it's a reference to the Hyper Smasher bonus effect; in Smash 3DS / Wii U, Hyper Smasher increased the charge time for smash attacks, but the full charge would deal an additional 1.3x damage.

Smash attacks can be charged much longer in SSBU than in previous games. It cannot be held indefinitely.

Yeah, not forever. I played at E3 and it was longer, but not infinite.

I noticed this too. When your character is charging a Smash attack, they "shake" as if they're struggling to put more power into their attack, in Ultimate, I notice they turn into a statue when they charge for a while longer, implicating that the charge has finished.

I'm hoping it was increased so that smash attacks could more efficiently outlast and call out ledge options, but it may just be a fun change.
