try doing it in place first, it's not that hard but I can't of too much utility over y/x...

not to threadjack but Lovage, could you shed some light on why you choose to jump/wd with up? idk if it was a deliberate decision or if you just learned that way.

I jump and wave-dash with Up as well, xD

That's why I was asking.

I'm assuming Lovage just learnt it that way, that's why I use it. It doesn't really have any other advantage except for having less things to think about and making SHDL easier.

one subtle advantage I've noticed (I switch between Y and up situationally) is that when jumping out of shine you can be a bit faster with up and you're less likely to prematurely hit back and get stuck in turn around lag. Also with fast shine aerials, because you don't have to move your thumb from a/cstick to jump you can vary your timing a bit more.

If I'm in the air and I shine I always use up to jump out and waveland etc. It's just so much easier to set up your next move (ie you can bring your thumb to c-stick/B/Z/A etc.). It's a lot easier with Falco for some reason to me than Fox. I think it has to do with jump acceleration.

But regardless I think if you can get the hang of it, I think using up is usually better for those situations simply because you have more time to set up your right hand.
