Ive picked up fox recently for fun and sheik counter.

Ive gotten used to the short hop, SHFFLing and all that stuff, but i have trouble waveshining. What usually ends up happening is i shine and jump, instead of wavedashing.

How early do i need to press jump after shining, i know that you can practically do it instantly, but im lazy and dont feel like moving my thumb that fast. How much time do i have before i cant jump?

is there anything special to the wavedash after a shine? I think im just pressing L too soon, so i jump instead of wavedash. Or maybe my brain cant handle 3 step process .

Do i need to do a perfect wavedash (i.e. max distance). for waveshining to work properly?

thanks for any help.

perfect wavedash will only help you against certain characters(marth, mario etc..) and for a limited time (they can get out of waveshine).

you have to wait 3 frames after the first shine frame to actually jump out of your shine. so i doubt you'd react faster than 3 frames(althogh the sooner, the better), so dont worry about that part.

you can use the sliding from Y to B button technique, if you don't already, if not, i'd suggest just practicing.

the problem you're having with jumping is that the game obviously only reads your jumping command, I suspect that you're messing up the button combo order for a waveshine. Its downB diagonal XorY LorR.

Hope that helped.

is there a thread that talks about the sliding from b to y more in depth? when i slide, i tend to bash my finger on the side of the y button. I double missle with samus and that requires y to b sliding, not b to y. im a little confused.

and i will keep practicing, i think this might be my biggest problem.

actually, if the shine hits aren't there an additional 3 frames of hitlag, for a total of 6 frames between shine & jump?

Yes, Scotu. The timing comes with practice. You should be airdodging on frame 10-15 or so for a slow waveshine, odds are you're hitting the button too quick.

The secret is to practice slowly at first, and in both directions (back and forth) to eliminate bad habits, then focus on practicing on characters (practice corner infinites for the lag timing, and against shielding/invulnerable opponents)

didn't realize ppl had such elaborate methods of training waveshining. i just kinda learned to do it between stocks during friendlies.

yeah i started slow doing the motions one by one and then it all just turned fluid. give that a whirl

oh and by the way your going to kill yourself alot while learning so dont get frustrated. side b is going to become your best friend soon especially after you get a few really good waveshines off and your right near the edge and all of a sudden you hear the ting kind of sound and its not from the shine <(-^.^-)>

keep practicing and learn the finger movements to this trick and you'll eventually get it down. You can also look at NJzfinest's waveshine thread if you want.

Lol, all you gotta do first is practice against the wall, learn the timing, and slowly do it moving until you get it perfect. That is what i did and i waveshine incredibly well against sheik who is moderately hard all the way across the stage.

I can help you out. The trick is to treat the moves serperate. When you press down and B, you MUST press Y/X (what ever button you use to jump) on its own. Most likely, you are pressing your jump button the same time as the R button for the wavedash. You have to give the jump its own time, press Y/X (you know, give it its own time) first then press the R button along with tilting the joystick to wavedash. So yeah, I think that is the the only problem really. Good luck. ^^

As Miggz said, just think of the waveshine as two separate moves so it's like deflector, then wavedash. I had that kind of problem when I first started but it's so much easier now.

That IS waveshining. o.o I don't see what you're getting at.

When you say that is waveshine, you mean all i have to do is just so it in a chain? And is there a certain comething to it, like L-cancel or so?

If you can consistently repeat that in a chain, then there's your waveshine combo. Shine and wavedash, that's all there is to it, though you have to be relatively fast with it.
