Hey everyone.

I'm trying to learn how to wavedash with Marth, but I'm having trouble preforming it correctly. I'm able to do most of it but my shield stays up when I slide. Any tips?

Well you get it down over time, practice & more practice like crazy is key,
Marth has a pretty easy WD and as for the sheild part just let go of it earlier
&/Or make sure your trigger isnt sticky

If anything practice with Luigi to get wavedashing down

Thanks Glow. It's funny. I saw your vids of you and your friend going 1v1. So I studied the way you fought and tried to use some of your techniques in my fights. Thanks for the advice :)

Gah! I hate it when people tell you to use Luigi to practice wavedashing. It really doesn't make a difference. Actually, it's probably worse to use Luigi, because he uses wavedashing differently than Marth does. Very differently.

I completley agree, you should practice with the character you want to get good with because that way you get familiar with his movements.

mmmm if u wunna wavedash in general yuah just practice with luigi, but if u wunna wavedash with marth...u need to basically...practice with marth..knoe how ur character works and how he moves and such...but i mean...yuah it doesnt hurt to practice with luigi...but for future references if u wunna wave dash perfectly let alone move perfectly with marth...just practice with him and elvenarrow has a point..everyones wave dash is diff because there r actually some physic law related attributes involved in the game such as weight and height make a diff in a fight, so...just practice with marth..also...practice ur tech skills like 20-30 mins a day just so u dont get rusty

good luck

Luigi's wavedash is exactly the same timing as marth, captain falcon, the mario brothers, etc...
WD like fox and sheik are a bit faster. Falco's is slower (along with others). And bowser is all alone in his wavedash because of his ridiculously slow jump speed.
Just sayin for FYI purposes.

The reason people suggest practising wavedashing with Luigi is because his WD is so obnoxiously long and easily identifiable, so you'll know for sure when you've pulled it off.

If your shield pops up during mid-wavedash (shielddashing), that means of course that you're holding the shoulder button for too long. You only need to tap it; you can let go as soon as you start moving.

Also remember that because of how the L and R buttons work in Melee, you don't have to fully depress or "click" it in order to activate it. The slightest depression will get the job done, so that's what you should probably be aiming for here (and is also the way to get maximum fingerspeed, so use it for other techniques like L-canceling as well.)
