Wavedash OoS Help

I main falco, and when I wavedash I use Y and L. I also use L to shield. This makes it pretty easy to do Shine OoS, but I can't wavedash OoS. Should I switch to using R for shield or R for wavdashing? On one hand, R as shield and L as wavedasah makes it easy to do Wavedash OoS, but If I use R to wavedash and L to shield, then Shine out of Shield is easier. Any other tips would be appreciated!

I'd say keep using L for shielding and wavedashing when you aren't doing it out of shield. Then, whenever you find yourseld wanting to wavedash OoS, just shield with L and wavedash with R.

no wtf that isn't even necessary. you can wavedash out of shield with the same trigger that you shield with, did you not realize that? don't use a separate trigger it'll just confuse you and make it harder

To wavedash OoS with the same trigger, it helps to keep in mind that you don't have to release the trigger all the way in order to get the air dodge. If you release it so you are doing some sort of non-hard shield (though you should be in jumpsquat so you won't actually see this shield), then press it in again, you will air dodge (wavedash).

You can test it out yourself by light shielding, jumping, and then without releasing the shield button at all, press it in all the way. Your character should do the air dodge.

You have to decide which is most comfortable for you.

For me, personally, when I was first learning to WD OoS, I would shield and wavedash with the same button - R. But when I tried to learn it, I couldn't input it fast enough and so I made the decision to shield with L and wavedash with R. It's really easy, IMO, because you can still hold shield with L and then input the wavedash as if you weren't holding down the shield. Then before you finish wavedashing, you just let go of shield.

The only downside to my gameplay is when I play PM though :c. Brawl doesn't recognize the two different inputs so when you hold shield, the game thinks that all the shield buttons are pressed down

i shield and wavedash with the same trigger, once you get use to shield stun it gets easier.

A tip from someone like me who also uses only 1 trigger button.

When I do it, and it's a hard shield. You don't have to fully let go of the button to get the air-dodge to come out. What I do is I hit L to block, I block the attack, then I softly let go of L, like halfway letting go. As if I'm trying to change to light shield, almost immediately after that action I hit jump, then Re-push L all the way back in like I did in the beginning.

see how that works for you.

you could learn to use different buttons but if you're ever interested in playing say PM you need to learn it this way anyway. IF no PM, as long as you're willing to feel really awkward trying to re-adjust what already feels natural you can work on seperating the inputs.

But I say you don't have to.

I have already done some practice with L as shield and wavedash and R as wavedash OoS, so I'll probably stick with that, and I don't play enough PM to justify switching. Thanks for the tips though!
