Was New Pork City one game too early?

New Pork City is a stage that, as soon as it was revealed, everyone could easily agree that it was problematic and would be banned in all forms of tournament play. With the extreme size, extreme amount of empty space, the ability to camp heavily, and the Ultimate Chimera, this made it a stage not to be used. What's weirder about this stage is, in the context of the game, it feels bigger than the stage presents.

With four players, even in a doubles match and just casually, the stage felt too big for it to be enjoyable at all. IT always felt like something was needed for it to work, but as is in the game itself, it just felt out of place. Quite a few stages in Brawl felt excessively big and unfitting for the game, without even having the gusto that Temple had.

Queue in eight player Smash in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U. 8 Player Smash had a lot of stages, but some of these stages were a bit too small and others are a bit too big. Some, such as 75M, are universally agreed to not be enjoyed. Quite a few stages at launch, to me, felt missing from the 8 Player Stage feature. On the opposing hand, New Pork City has relatively little hazards (just the chimera) and was mostly a big playground for players.

New Pork City would have been awesome in 8 player Smash. It was, however, one game too early. In Brawl, no four players would ever have the use for a stage that freakishly big. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U? A stage like New Pork City could have faired better. It wasn't as big as Palutena's Temple, but still larger than Hyrule Temple. While it's unfortunate that New Pork City didn't make a return in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it's a pretty good fit for Super Smash Bros. for Switch, especially if the eight player mode returns.

What are your thoughts? Do you think it could have fit in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS? Do you think this would make a nice addition to Super Smash Bros. Switch if it has 8 players? Let us know in the comments below!

It very well could make a return and with 8 players turning hazards off by default, the chimera wouldn't pose an issue.
